I'm number crunching on a very long quote for a property refurb. It's a line by line quote, so everything is broken down, which is helpful, but throwing up some interesting numbers.
For bathroom fitting, I'd expect to see a labour rate of ~£100 - 120 for fitting a pedestal washbasin, and maybe £180 - 200 for fitting a bath - I'm factoring in that this is work in London (SE area) but some of the figures I'm seeing are quite a bit further north than this. Am I out of whack here and should I expect this to be a higher rate?
Equally, any views on wallpaper stripping and plastering? Of all the research I've done, stripping a room varies wildly and I'm querying the costs that I have. On recent work, £350/day for plastering seemed a fair rate - although we are in suburbia in Berkshire and not London - any views on how London rates differ?
I appreciate that this a bit of a 'how long is a piece on string question' but any views gratefully received.

350 a day for plastering sounds huge! Supplying materials I would expect 150-200 (SW London / Kingston area)

Edit: for one guy

Wow those prices are steep! Plastering should be £150 - 200 per day & the bathroom stuff seems steep too. If a simple fit a sink & bath are pretty quick to fit.

Give me a PM and I'll set you up with the details of a plasterer I used - top notch work, did my whole flat, took a week with him supplying all materials and cost me £1k...finished the job here 2 weeks ago smile

I'm in beckenham and think he was coming from Blackheath way if your vaguely local?

I'm not sure if I've understood that correctly, but you're having a whole house refurbished and the contractor has broken prices down to individual items like fitting the pedastal wash basin and bath? That's very throrough.

What is the total for the portion of the bathroom refurb?

They may be a bit high on that, but low on something else, so the overall quote for the whole bathroom might actually be reasonable, or horribly expensive, but it's hard to say without seeing all of it.

If the house is empty and you aren't worried about having a random in the house, you can probably get some grunt labour from Gumtree for not a lot to do the unskilled work like stripping wallpaper.

You need to get quotes for the individual elements and then try and obtain 2 or 3 quotes to see what is reasonable, but I wouldn't be surprised to see crazy labour rates in London.

Thanks - I may do that. I saw your refurb thread and it looks good
