So, summer is officially over, I've searched but haven't found this year's thread anywhere so thought I'd start it myself.

We gonna see any of the white stuff this year? smile

If the thread is already running elsewhere then I'll skulk off in disgrace getmecoat

After some brief unsettled wet, it's looking like a long warm dry September at the moment.

There are a few credible reports of September snow in the annals for England (Dartmoor/London...) but exceptionally rare.

Not made yet. You are going to get some people cursing you though, since there seems to be a correlation between when the PH snow thread for the year is started and the quality of the snowy winter, wink

Think I will be doing a short drive to get some skiing done on Saturday, so can post some snow pictures to get you in the mood!

Pfffft - back to the summer thread please.

This thread does not open until the first predicted snow on Cairngorm (actually it's snowed on Cairngorm occasionally through out summer this year).

I checked, it's almost spot on 365 days since the last one opened!! frown

I really want this thread re-opening soon then, I'm sick of having to put the A/C on in the flat!

fk.

I know I'm in a minority in the UK but I really do start to get fed up with the heat very quickly indeed!

At least tell me that all this heat probably means a freezing winter?

I am just waiting for the annual phone call from my mother telling me that she has just read in the Daily Mail that its going to be the worst winter in 50 years and she is stocking up on supplies in case she gets "snowed in" and that I should do the same !

Here in the North West, summer was over weeks ago – it felt autumnal even in late July. However, I still thinks its far too early for a Winter/ Snow thread…..

But I expect the usual ‘winter’ weather; mildish, grey, windy & wet….

AC in a flat I wish I had that in my furnace. Was that installed when you moved in or did you add it afterwards?

It's just one of those portable ones, I stick the pipe out of the window and leave it running in the bedroom for 5-6 hours before bed. It makes a world of difference, in the worst of the weather I can get the bedroom from 28-29 degrees down to about 20 degrees by bedtime. Best money I've ever spent.

The trick is to put it on for ages so that everything in the room is properly chilled, the bed, the walls, everything. That way it stays cooler for longer after you switch off (you couldn't sleep with it on unless you had good earplugs!)

I am tempted with a proper split system (water cooled with internal compressor as I can't put anything outside) but they're about £5K!

Yep, bought one of these

at the start of the summer while we've a new baby. Too noisy to sleep next to but as Oval said, chill the room and contents for a few hours before bedtime and it's great.

Found a bit of snow on Saturday, but mostly it was a very big block of ice. There was one mountain with a little new snow a long way inland though, so hopefully it will come soon!

The Express has got to get it right one year - same old story rehashed again - but extra early, mince pies are only just out in the COOP!

I think NewsThump summed it up perfectly, with

"Meteorologists claim this winter will see worst Daily Express weather scaremongering in THIRTY YEARS"

I'm sure that Nathan Rao just copies and pastes the story each year.

Anyway, it's getting distinctly cooler here this evening on the south coast. I'm almost in my "Goldilocks" zone smile

It's 1st October so I'm now joining this thread.

Hate the Daily Express, they always spoil winter with their stupid predictions frown
