thanks for that, yes BNC connectors thats the ones as soon as you said it. I'll have a look at those might get the one and see how that turns out for me compared to the other domes. i have bigger domes up in the eves and there still pretty good at night but this particular ones is not very clear at night.

heres some of the screenshots using the app on my phone, as i say some are ok, the driveway one is the main concern as its grainy and is a smaller dome than the others.

Also running HIKVISION domes here. They are good - you must ensure they are running 1080 though as they default to a much lower resolution in the DVR.

Thats an analogue recorder, obsolete technology you probably aren't going to get a much better image than you have down coax. The 2 options are 1 flash your dvr to the latest firmware and run cat5 to 2 camera locations, as the later firmware upgrades that 8 channel dvr to a 10 channel hybrid, the 2 ip channels can run up to 1080p at 12 or 20 fps
Or 2 fit a turbo hd replacement dvr and fit turbo hd cameras and you can run 1080p or 3 megapixel down the existing coax.

ah ok thats frustrating, story of my life to be honest, too late getting on the technology so when i do its already over taken with new technology.
im going to have to digest what you said, i'll have a look at the turbo hd replacement dvr . im guessing thats the best option
do you mean something like this?

That one has been superceded by the new f series, 7208hqhi-f2/n for 1080p and 7208huhi-f2/n for 3 megapixel. You can save a few quid by getting a 2 tb as the new models use the more efficient h264+ Codec which means they don't need as much storage

Your all getting quite good results compared to me. My setup is a Hik 7200 series analogue recorder and an ancient Samsung varifocal dome. Prehaps buying a Hik fixed lens bullet will give a better image.

I changed the hikvision dome for a turret (4mp same as before) and night vision now is pretty good.

I would say that the hikvision nvr is still a little clunky on playback, the machine doesnt always respond or sometimes will show a blank screen when i click on a camera. It's a hikvision nvr ds-7604ni-e1. Does anyone know if any of the other hikvision models are better in terms of usability ?

Stirling yours will take up to 2 ip cameras 2332 or 2342 models but only record at 1080p 2 megapixel which is still way better than the 0.5 megapixel your current cameras are, but you will need to run cat5 cables or fit veracity or similar ip over coax converters.
Wjwren the e series is the base model economy nvr mostly suited to 2 or 3 megapixel cameras, ideally you want to run an i series nvr for the 4+ megapixel cameras you are maxing out your current one.
