I've been considering fitting a house alarm to a holiday cottage and have been looking at the Risco range. They get great reports, have facilities such as remote control by IOS/Android app and alarm verification by video over the app.

The system is only available for installation by approved installers which is a problem as the cottage is quite remote and anyone who will come out needs to be paid a not insignificant sum travel. I suspect Risco also justify a high markup of components on the basis of official installation.

I'm looking for a system with the above facilities that would be available for me to fit myself. I've fitted both wired and wireless alarms before and this one could be either. It doesn't need to be wireless. There are DIY systems from the likes of Yale but the reports are that the app falls over as soon as you look at it and is as user friendly as a razor on the end of a selfi stick.

Has anyone any experience if good systems out there?

I’ve got a yale system that calls my mobile if there is an alarm or fire, it reads me a certain message, depending on the alarm type, and i can de-activate it by pressing a certain key, it also calls my Mrs. and a local key-holder if I don’t answer.

I can also phone it, and arm/disarm the remote from anywhere.

ive added extra sensors and components, very easy to install, and whilst im sure it not the most secure alarm, good enough for me.

Any good?

Yes it's a great value system. I've fitted one to a friends house and it is reliable and solid however I'm really looking for a system which gives greater feedback. That's where a system that connects to its own app really shines.

Yale also do an inexpensive system which connects to its app but looking at the reviews it seems unreliable. I'm trying to find a system which falls between the Yale and Risco in price terms and allows me the convenience of fitting myself.
