It's just a drawer front, behind it are hidden some mains sockets. I hate when people make a nice island then put sockets on show, just looks crap. These work really well, reason its slightly open is something it plugged in.
I like That, it's a really good idea. In fact one better would be to have a slight gap at the top to enable you to close it while having items plugged in. most mains cables are only 5 or 6mm, but I guess that wouldn't be so easy in reality as that will be a standard size door in a standard size opening and it would need cutting (and would ruin the finish) to make a gap

I did consider that, but I wanted equal gaps and it not to look obvious when nothing is plugged in (most of the time).
The original ones the kitchen people did used normal butt hinges and magnetic catches which looked crap, you could see the hinge pin and there was nothing to hold the drawer front when it was open, nor would it stay shut with a cable in it.
I got them to re-do it using soft close hinges which means there's no hinges on show and it will hold itself in the position in the picture when somethings plugged in. It's normally more closed but it's the Evohome controller plugged in which has a transformer on it, so a bit bigger than a normal plug.
