Nope, making your own antique glass is definitely the way to go. You'll increase your net uncle worth no end, all you have to do is watch a couple of Youtube videos... and work out how the hell you can strip the backing off a piece of new mirror.

You don't need a mirror. But you may need to dilute Tara's voice.

I think it depends on the colour of the tiles and units.
The tiles he has chosen are like huge metro tiles in a light blue and the units are cream with a black granite worktop

Tiles are this kind of size - http://www.toppstiles.co.uk/tprod46180/attingham-s...
Best of luck with them once you find out there's a plug socket in the middle of the bloody thing.

Small metro with a contrasting grout - look pretty good and the cheapest/easiest option for you.

In fact, look at the reviews on Topps - every single one is for a bathroom. IMO they're too big for a splashback.

Well thanks to Hyphen he is now starting to look at LED glass to replace all the tiles and take the tiles back because "you can change the colour of the whole room with a remote control depending on the mood youre in" Meanwhile I am regretting this thread, can feel my debit card burning and am considering building a voodoo doll of Hypen and throwing it on the BBQ!

Well he decided he liked the LED glass splashback idea and has found a company that makes it with the only joins in the corner and the colour is changable by remote control to one of 125 colours at any time!

My visa card is burning

The person who mentioned LED glass splashbacks had better not bump into me at a PH meet! hehe

Thanks all

And he can turn the LEDs off when he gets sick of them. Hurrah!

Very true. It's a kitchen, not a bloody Christmas tree.

Indeed what's wrong with good old tiles hey.
His view? At least your saving money not needing under cupboard lighting! Erm thanks

Glass for me - natural very pale green/blue colour.

Steel always looks like a chipshop to me.
I am the same, that much stainless steel looks exactly as Cheap Chip Shop.

Stick with glass/tiles etc. Fair enough staying on trend, but do that on furniture/lighting/wall mounting stuff. Messing with a kitchen for the current 'trend' can be expensive in 5 years time when tastes change.

Stainless steel splash backs make it look like a commercial kitchen.

It's been a long time since glass splashbacks were fashionable.

The sun is setting on metro tiles being on trend.

Large format porcelain tiles with some sort of texture to soften them are the current thinking. mine are 1.2m x 0.6m so minimal grout to get dirty. 1.5mm tile spacers as they are rectified tiles. Here's mine

Grinder with a tile cutting blade deals with that issue. I find it strangely satisfying when a socket or switch is in the middle of the tile. Sorts the men from the boys.

I actually really like Metro tiles - maybe my "style brain" is due for an update to v1.2

Nope, they are nice. A few years ago they were 'in' so were everywhere as the default choice hence needed time to settle back.

Still a fan of metro tiles, just did a kitchen and a bathroom in them. Nice white ones in a kitchen with black grout. Looks the mutts...

The last splashback I tiled used largish rectangular tiles - something in the region of 350mm x 150mm and didn't look too bad IMO.

Generally the grout does tend to discolour over time though as cooking residue invariably stains it to a degree.

Does the fact they're textured not mean they end up with cooking stains all over them?
