metal capping. plumber drilled through with masonry bit, cos it's a brick wall innit, shaved the red only, RCD failed to work (check 'em folks), plumber knew nothing until he stuffed a bit of 15mm copper tube into the hole and got thrown across the room.
Got to love a good vertical cable run from an outlet. eek

Where the fk would he start!?

It's not just this thread, in fact most on here are full of st.
Don't get me wrong, I've been in construction for 33 years and I've picked up/learnt from others on here, but some should really keep stum.
Even the quote (sorry Attaksmile) about chasing the wall effecting the structure of the wall, in theory maybe but in all the years I've been ripping properties apart I cannot recount seeing any hint of structural problems, not even hairline cracks.
Saying that, I'd rather not chase walls, especially in the likes of thermalites.
Some of you on here assume that undertaking your own project qualifies
you to state the rights and wrongs of the building industry, it takes a bit more than that.

I occasionally cap cables if they haven't already been done when I'm plastering, as the tiny nails that come with cable clips don't always get a good hold in crumbly old mortar;: If you use capping then you're free to use longer galvanized clout nails.

No capping unless spark has already fitted it (rip it out if not deep enough!), Carlite bonding flush with wall, skim coat the lot........end of!

You can't have built many/any houses ever then.

You are correct, I've only built one, well strictly speaking it was a bungalow and I didn't put the roof tiles on nor did I do all the plastering, however I have designed/justified a magnitude of masonry in my time. I'm sure you're aware of BS 5628. wink

You can quote all the "BS" you like but lots of blockwork is chased into in builds every day of the week and if done correctly it wont be compromising the structure to any noticable degree.

I have had 6 CML sign offs just his week by NHBC. All have has some blockwork chased out and all been inspected periodically.

Try actually workimg on a building site rather than taking your "BS" out of a book.

To be fair there's some real, utter horse st spouted most days particularly about the electrical game by people with no idea what they're talking about. I've clicked on threads here and clicked out again as the reply begging is a tirade of abuse and I just can't be bothered.

If you were a doc and the health forum here was full of statements like "if you're gonna go sleeping around take some aspirin it will stop you getting STD's" you'd probably want to throttle a few wkers for contributing such "advice" too
