If you don't risk taking the skin off your finger if you poke it in there then it isn't like any speedfit I have used. Very odd if it actually says speedfit on it. Did it come from a reputable supplier because the picture on the screwfix website (and elsewhere on the web) shows something different to what you have....

Intersting, not seen that set up. We go directlly onto stainless tails.

that doesn't look like speedfit. On speedfit the end collar is easy to move and has slots down inside plus metal barbs. If you get the plastic pipe past the barbs then there is no way it is coming out again without either depressing the collar or using so much force the fitting and pipe are both damaged. I know, I have tried with a speedfit fitting that jammed on........

This shows what a proper speedfit fitting looks like: http://sxonline.co.uk/ekmps/shops/sxheating/images...

My vote is for a new fitting.
Cheers brman, it was your post that made me have a sit down and have a comparison of the joints I had.

I had presumed because this was a push fit it would be different to the twist lock Speedfit.

You spotted what the forum expert/preacher 2lefthands completely missed, that the collar wasn't there at all.

Thank you very much for taking the time to offer your advise.
As an expert/preacher, can you confirm that the correct backflow prevention device is installed?

As punishment for missing the fact the collar wasn't there in the first place, I've donated my first born to medical research. silly

Haha, couldn't leave it could you.

Yeap, already fitted before the outside tap (not by me, was already there when we moved in). Hard to imagine a none professional could possibly do a basic job hey?

No need to give away you first child, just being less sarcastic and patronising on a friendly forum would suffice, you have a tendency for it and regularly pulled up for it here. Especially when you couldn't spot the problem and a mere amateur like myself sorted it! (With great advise, explanations and gratious effort from amateur and professionals here)

You end up with egg on your face (twice now after you decided to dig your way out of your first mistake)

Thankfully, as my input isn't really needed, I'll give this section a wide berth going forwards - sick and tired of sensitive little wkers. I'd urge other professionals who give free advice here to do the same, as it will be no time at all until some smug will try and tell you you're incompetent and your posting style gets people's backs up because hidden in postings is years of knowledge.

Didn't realise this was turning in to fking mumsnet...

I don't think you're supposed to use this type of fitting straight onto stainless tube.

Bye. You added nothing, nothing will be missed.

Or, as you will do, stay cos you love trying to swag around people with less knowledge openly saying they don't know and are trying to understand.

I hope you don't train apprentices, you would make a hateful teacher.

Just be nice or funny if you aren't nice. If not genuinely fk off. No one needs the smug prick at the bar.

Years of knowledge didn't help here did it? Smug ttness didn't do anyone any favours but now you got it wrong you are flouncing like a goodun.

Stop telling people how brilliant you are and help, or don't, which is fine if you don't want to. Not sure why you spend so much effort doing neither apart making yourself feel important.

The professionals that did help from a slightly less lofty position actually saw the issue and helped and were hopefully roundly thanked. You've been pulled up for being a bellend, again...

You owe an appoligy for being a sarky knobber and getting it wrong in an attempt to condensend after a patronising mistake.

Us being like mumsnet? Pot kettle sweetcheeks.

OP,

IMO it looks like lack of deck maintainance. The pipe doesn't want o be part of a household with such little time for Ronseal.

Good point, carforumwker on YouTube made a similar comment about my apalling taste in mugs also.

It is a hard place to hide here!

Luckily the deck will be ripped out when the extention goes on and the bloody washing machine ends up back in the house. What are the chances I won't be able to disconnect the pipes when the time comes?

Off topic and to lighten the mood, OP, how did you choose your user name?

Sorry my fault. Seen that guy do the same stuff on here a few times.

As for the name, it is a name I unfortunately picked up playing rugby. In 2003 I pulled my hip flexor, came back, tore my knee ligaments, came back crashed my motorbike and broke my hand, came back and got shin splints. They said I was like a Tampon, in for one week out for three.

Name just stuck. As people either call me Tamps or Tampon I have just got used to it, only when new people hear it you remember it is not that usual...

If you don't mind me asking- do you not ever ask advice from another profession, both on or off the internet? For example a computer problem, a car issue, minor electrical, building question and so on

Isn't a diyer asking a plumbing question not the same too?

Pretty much what I was going to say. Bit like some (not all I hasten to add) of the electricians on here.

chrome plated pipe. This is because it is difficult for teeth in a
Speedfit Fitting to ‘bite’ into the very hard surface. And
therefore the fitting could slip along the pipe."

To be fair, whilst 2lhands does come across as an arrogant wotsit, most of the advice he gives is spot on.

Whereas there are some regular contributors that are friendly and give advice freely, that is complete rubbish.

Neither is ideal, but think I'd rather have a professial sharing their experience without charge, than some of the Simple contributions?

Must be a differnt type of JG fitting, as these are universally used in the brewery installation industry.

quite possibly, these are the instructions for the standard fittings that are most likely to be seen in domestic properties. To be fair it is likely that warning about stainless is there to cover themselves, there are all sorts of different hardness stainless, some probably cause problems, some are probably fine. I suspect in the brewery industry there are pretty fussy about the pipes and fittings they use so they know they will work. The average plumber, not so much.... wink

Yeah, their are friendly professionals here as well though. It was one of the amateurs that did the research and got me a parts list so I could order everything to do the job, sizes and all.

It made me smile when he got it wrong and then spouting his usual Diyers are muppets only professionals should do it you will all die gas safe gas safe building regs etc etc.

Shouldn't but when people give it the big I am and fall short it is satisfying when you gently rib them and they try and trip you up again rather than taking it, and come a cropper again.

This place is a brilliant resource and over the near 14 years I have used it people have been extremely friendly and giving with their time and knowledge. Left hands is told regularly by different people that he is rude unhelpful and he constantly replies the same crap abut being tired cos he had to fit a boiler and he is very knowledgeable and we should all listen to him no matter how he talks to people. Errŕm no thanks.

I don't mind if he doesn't post, he isn't very helpful in the thread I have seen and is definitely lacking social skills. Others here on this thread would be a crying shame if they were to stop helping people.

Anyway. All done with now and I am currently washing my first load in the shed like a pikie!

Cheers guys.
