Ignoring the question, should you get automated blinds, can anyone recommend a UK supplier of motorised blinds that are compatible with the likes of Nest or others?

Has anyone installed these within their home?

There is nothing that I know of that is directly compatible with Nest or the 'works with nest' family but I am sure you can combine something within either the IFTTT control platform or Yonomi which I am playing with at the moment for Echo/House control intergration.

For blinds, retro-fit look at QMotion, but with most motorised blinds, they are not cheap. The first gen had rf remote controls and app / IP and RS232 controls. But I believe that the new 2nd gen also has either ZigBee or Z-Wave or maybe both to give them more scope for control. As a dealer Ph deals could be available if you want several.

I've been doing a bit of research on this too. I had three sets of electric black out blinds installed just before Christmas (just as well because we only had wrapping paper to cover the front window for the last few days before!!). However, I hadn't thought ahead about integrating it with any of my other control equipment until I got an Amazon Dot for Christmas. I've been able to link in some Philips Hue lights to the Dot, but so far unsuccessful in finding any way to 'hack' the RF remote that came with the blinds.

Now I'm aware of this, I'm being more careful now I'm choosing electric curtain tracks (they will just come out when using my projector, so will have ugly but very black material to help with the picture). I've found various videos on Youtube on how to do this, but it all seems so involved and complicated with multiple pieces and different brands all combined. I think that once someone comes up with a blind/curtain controller that can be directly linked in with the Dot/Nest, etc then they'll be onto a winner.

I'll feedback if I find anything that might be of interest.

What sort of ball park figures are we looking at here? e.g. 180cm by 120cm window?

Let me fire up the laptop tomorrow and I'll be able to give you a ball park.

I supplied and fitted some Q motion wireless blinds a few weeks ago and they were 210d x 120w and were about660+vat retail each. The control box to use the iPhone app seemed a bit pricey at over £200 but they were a doddle to fit and setup. I got some literature through from silent gliss who are also now doing their own battery blinds at a similar £.
