Hi,

Proving difficult to find insurers for a house with more than 5 bedrooms, can anyone recommend brokers/companies who will cover large houses as most won't insure houses with more than 5 bedrooms and those that will are greatly more expensive than for a 4/5 bed.

Thanks.

Hiscox?

Expensive, but superb service if you need them.

M&S - great cover - reasonable price. Make sure you fit the assumptions, max 6 bedrooms

NFU Mutual as well. When we had a 6 bed we tended to lean towards the premium insurers who would cover without a problem. I'm very much for the quality over cost with regards insurance anyway and at that level it wasnt significantly different to a 5 bed house.

Admiral cover my 6 bed no problem. I've used the comparison websites several years on the trot and haven't had any issues with finding cover.

I suppose what would be good to know is who is easy to deal with in the event of a claim for a large property with 6+ bedrooms, as I imagine many will take the money to cover but could be difficult to deal with.

See my post above!

(I don't have a 6 bedroom house, but my claims experience with Hiscox was exemplary).

I found Hiscox useless when I was trying to arrange cover.

I was trying to get cover whilst extending and they said they couldn't cover it, suggested their sister co. they didn't call back, then when I got their details they couldn't cover it and said Hiscox could !

NFU are usually quite good for large homes with outbuildings etc

I'm back in the office on Tuesday if you want to give me a call on 01823 230249. Or drop me a line on adam@townleyinsurance.co.uk and I'll get back to you. ;-)

I use John Lewis after being recommended on here, pretty sure they have a premium service too which may cover you?

Ours is a non-standard large house which used to be insured, at some expense, by Aviva. Switched to Towergate and now get better cover for less than half Aviva's premium.

I'm surprised a broker can't help.
