I'm at the looking grim stage too. Green shoots are coming, but the weather is only just getting warm enough to really germinate the seeds. Can't wait to get my lawn back.

Don't worry about the state of your scarified lawns, they will quickly recover. Best thing you can do to your lawn. Getting a tad warmer down south so I'll re-seed in a few weeks, not a lot of rain down here.

I made a start on my parents lawns at the weekend, by putting some moss killer on them. The plan is that I will rake the moss out next week. I can't decide if it is worth hiring a scarifier for 15m² of lawn, or if I should man up and rake by hand.
For 15m2, It'll take you longer to go and pick the scarifier up from the hire place than to just do it yourself with a rake!
This evening I'm regretting not hiring a scarifier! I managed to pull a wheelie bin full of moss out of the lawns, but it looked like there was still plenty more to come. I have overseeded it now, so hopefully it will look a lot better soon.

Next year I will hire a scarifier and do it properly!

Sounds like a bargain as they're pretty pricey. Keep in mind though cylinder mowers generally have a shorter cut. I bought a bigger Ransomes Marquis and while it cuts superbly my lawn isn't fine or flat enough for it really. It's also tricky navigating around the walls in the garden so am thinking of getting rid. Such a shame as it has a newish kubota 160cc motor with electronic ignition and it runs and starts superbly.

Yep... because the "weed" component of the weed & feed will kill the seedlings.

It had just been cut with a turf cutter to be removed. It was previously like this;

For those worried theyve just ruined their lawns, check out last years lawn thread when last years scarifications started - lots of before and afters, a few panics but mainly lawns looking pretty good a month later or so.

I do my own, but my parents had Lawntec do theirs in September ish. It looked terrible, I mean really terrible for about 8 weeks but it looks like a dream now.

thanks for flipping pic, Richatnort.

So i have a new build and after a little complaint I got the builders to dig up the old turf and lay down new topsoil and re-turf with new.

This was done in feb17 and now looks like this. I am new to all this, how do i look after it now?

I read few pages back what i think i need is some feed or fertiliser, is that correct? could anyone advise me on what to purchase, just getting into all this.

That looks great, what a big improvement.
Your sleeper edging - have you just butted them against each other or is there something below the surface holding them all together? Presumably they're just sat on a shingle / light mix base? Interested about doing mine and how much of a headache i should expect.

Good move on the decking, doubt grass would have been too happy with the likely shade. Looks good.
