Does anyone know of a jig for routing joins on Ikea worktops? They're 635mm wide. This doesn't seem to be a standard size for the locating holes on any of the jigs I can find.

I don't but I do know that they will do all that for you if you ask when ordering if that's any help.

This should do the job, the length stop is adjustable so you set it from the width of the counter your fitting to.

Thats exactly what the pros used before cncs. You'll want to undercut one join back half a mm to get a tigh join and get some jointer bolts to pull it together nicely. Then a few layers of masking tape on a hammer to gently tap it flat until the glue dries.

If you have never done it before, practice a joint on a bit of your old counter top, Just dont get carried away and blunt your router bit too much because you will want a sharp one for your real cuts.

Also plan you cuts to do the ones with the bigger counter lengthens first if you can, that way if you mess one up the big counter length can become one of the shorter ones later.

Great - thanks for finding that and the advice. I've never done it before - luckily though my dad used to be a kitchen fitter about 30 years ago and will be on hand to tell me when I'm doing it wrong.

The Trend jig worked a treat. Considering the joint was the first thing I've ever cut with a router, the result's amazing.

Is that just square edge timber? I'm only looking on my phone so can't see the bull nose, but when I did my solid work work tops I was told just to use a butt joint rather than a typical worktop join as you've done.

Looks a solid job though.

Pictures a bit crap off my phone camera - it's not got a full bull nosed end but the corners are radiused so I would have had to cut the edge to butt join them neatly anyway.

Looks like pencil-nosed rather than bull-nosed? Not that it makes a difference, you still couldnt do a butt joint.

Ah that makes sense - I was well happy when I found out I could just do a butt joint, took one more thing away from me that I didn't really have the inclination to do!
