So, with the flooring of the extension going down this week and our old sofas consigned to landfill a couple of months ago we need some furniture.

I want a modern looking single or double sofa that I can fart in for the next 15 years. Prefer leather and want it so be comfy, recliners welcome. A bright colour would also be good.

Any recommendations?

Are recliners really a 15 year option?

Every recliner I've ever sat on feels wobbly and a bit fragile. Not confidence inspiring.

Shame, as I'd quite fancy the flexibility.

Just spent a few days looking at 2 and 3 seater recliners and agree, most felt wobbly and I doubt they would last. We were round most of the main retailers and the only ones that seemed more robust were from SCS or the bigger named brands. We ordered la z boy, 12 week lead time.

I have a Stokke Peel (now made by Varier, so search Varier Peel if wanting new).

Not a "sofa", but fits the bill noted smile

Ekornes Stressless sofas & chairs are supposed to be very comfortable.

got myself a large La-Z boy like the one in the photo.

Very comy.

SCS seem to be the only people that deal with them in the UK

There are other smaller places that do la z boy, scs seem to be the only large retailer though and have an exclusive range. My experience with them shows they are pretty unwilling to discount if you take the 0% finance, but by paying in full I got a bit off, free delivery and 5 year cover.

We have four in the garden room and two in the sitting room

Very comfy and built to last. Different widths and leather qualities too. Get the stools too

Never liked anything from SCS, and the La Zy Boy stuff looks a bit naff to me.

I'd definitely go the Ekornes / Stressless route for something like that.

If it is JUST a sofa you are looking for, we trawled round last year looking for something new. I'm quite difficult to please as I have long legs, so find most sofas deeply uncomfortable to sit on as I always feel perched.

In the end, we fell in love with the Long Island sofa at sofa.com

https://www.sofa.com/shop/sofas/corner-arrangement...

I'm not sure it is available in leather, and it doesn't recline - but then it doesn't need to as it is large enough for even me to curl up on, so my feet don't even touch the floor.

Definitely purchasing this when we (finally) move to our new place.

Stressless do sofas as well as chairs. They're not at all cheap but they are worth the money IMO. effectively 3 (or 2) separate seats so not comfy to lie along, but great to sit in.

You did better then me. I told the mrs as we went in not to give the game away if she liked anything, that we are going to treat them like cockroaches and bargain hard, not being afraid to walk away if they don't do us a deal.

The Mrs sat in the La z boy in front of the salesman, turned to me and screamed "this is the most comfortable sofa in the world, we HAVE to buy it!!!"

Strangely I couldnt get a penny off after that...

There is also Himolla,

ie, http://www.lukehurst.co.uk/himolla-mosel-manual-re...

Not the cheapest but have got a good name. My FIL has two recliners and a three seat fixed sofa - all are exceptionally comfortable (the sofa is available in recline as well if needed)

This.
Comfiest sofas we have ever owned.

For a chair, I'd like an eames recliner.

Not if it's Nutuzzi Editions it isn't. Subsiding chipboard overpriced junk held together with staples.

Comfiest chair I have found is the Ro Easy Chair by Fritz Hansen.....not cheap though. John Lewis have a good selection of sofas and chairs (G Plan and their own Barbican range are funky in a retro way if you like that style) but the only way to find out is to go to showrooms and have a sit in them. Heals and Habitat are worth a look for modern design although alot of it doesn't suit me as I need a highbacked, upright chair to be comfortable (neck problem).
