Sat at my desk, innocently munching away on a kiwi, when a colleague starts shouting at me as if im on fire about me eating the kiwi whole, skin and all.

I’ve been told before that you are not supposed to eat the skin, but that’s where all the flavour/sourness is and having tried one without I couldn’t possibly waste that precious skin ever again.

Am I alone in my kiwi skin eating ways?

Another one is lemons and limes, used to take a whole lemon to school and eat it like an orange, still can’t have a drink with a slice of lemon or lime and not eat it at the end, the best bit!

Finally, as a kid, whenever I went to the supermarket I wanted a treat, most kids would be around the cookies or sweets, I used to BEG for a herring rollmop, and proceed to eat it in the car on the way home, Loved them, not had one for years now.

Anyone else got any quirks when it comes to food?

I eat food in order.

First the salad or vegetables. Completely. Then the meat, interspersed with potato. If the food is all mixed up, like in a curry, I'm momentarily confused before just eating it anyway...

Beetroot juice must not be allowed to stain other food. Best served on a separate dish. It took years of trying to be a grown up about it for me to get over that one and it is STILL an issue in the back of my mind.

I could go on but you get the idea. I'm mental.

Weirdo biglaugh

I'm not a massive Kiwi fan myself but I'm sure I have eaten them with skin at some point or another. My three year old daughter likes eating lemon slices and will also tuck into a bowl of olives so perhaps she'll be the one with the savoury tastes in the family.

A mate of mine apparently ate the skin of an avocado in a restaurant (prawn and avocado starter type thing), said the waitress gave him an odd look when collecting up the plates.

Not sure I have any specifics myself other than eating pretty much anything.

My missus hates the way I keep my food tidy on the plate when I'm eating, don't have any of those weird hangups about food not touching etc. but will keep certain thing separate more because it's the way I want to eat them rather than anything else. Drives her crazy.

I do the same. Never really struck me as being weird.

I also get very confused watching people struggle trying to pile all this food on what is evidently the wrong side of a fork for it's purpose, rather than just cut it first then switch hands (and/or turn it round) to eat it easily. Why make eating more difficult than it needs to be.

Plus my little sister with Downs does so - she's a bit detail obsessive generally.

Mum and dad once had a 3 year old foster boy who's favourite food was tomato. Not in stuff, not soup, not ketchup, but a fresh raw tomato. He'd sit eating it like an apple, and was in his favourite place.

Mainly because it amazes Americans and French people. The British way with the cooperative use of Knife and Fork simultaneously and also pointlessly using the "wrong" side of the fork is just a sort of showmanship. Like eating with chopsticks. Something you do because you can. hehe

I don't think it's odd. I eat tomato that way from time to time. Lovely.

If we were talking about a raw white onion - THEN I'd think that was weird...

When I have a cooked breakfast, I like to cut a little 1 inch by 1 inch toast square, load on it a bit of egg and bacon or sausage, and eat little loaded 'sandwiches' of breakfast.

The only time I ever eat something in order is if it's a burger/wrap etc. served with chips. eat the chips first and the burger last. Everything else gets eating bit by bit. Give me a plate of rice, curry and salad and I will eat a little of everything bit by bit. Sometimes I'm looking at the food and look to see which mixture of rice/meat/curry looks nice and which clump of salad has a good ratio of all vegetables.. and i save that for the end. i'll chip away at it so the last bite is tasty.
I do a simlar thing with burgers. I'll eat around it and think which area has a nice amount of meat, sauce & veg so I have a nice last bite.

I like raw onions. If I can't be bothered making up a salad to eat with a meal I'll just chop up a white onion to eat with it.

Never tried eating a whole kiwi (only an apple or pear - apple seeds taste slightly bitter!), how peculiar. Ate a few raw (button) mushrooms too.

I tend to fold chapatis, rather than tear them up. Occasionally will even stuff curry inside them, a bit like fajita. boxedin

In a certain way you aren't far off, but essentially no, not at all.

I did eat chicken testicles once in Israel though.

i do that with pita bread. I bite off the top and stuff it with curry, rice and salad and it that way.

Mashed potato has a lump of butter on top, this melts to form a little pool. Potato is eaten round this until it is impossible to eat without the pool escaping. Remaining butter/potato eaten as fast as possible.

Been doing it since I was a kid, now I'm 43 I'm unlikely to change.

Great thread OP!

Not much to offer - an ex house mate would ONLY eat once all washing up was done, dried & put away (other than plate, knife & fork obviously).
