Best way to seal trickle vent.

Hi All,

Looking for some advice in regards to sealing one of the flush trickle vents we have above one of the windows. The vent itself is knackered so is letting a draught into one of the bedrooms. Rather than replace i'd rather just seal it. There won't be any issues with condensation as the other vent is functional. Will silicone sealant do the job?

My advice is - don't bodge it with silicone.

Trickle vents are cheap as chips and can be unscrewed easily for replacement. Unscrew it to reveal the vent in the frame and tape over it temporarily until you can replace it.

You could pour silicone into it, but it'll probably blacken over time and then you will have to dig it all out after your prospective buyer notices it...

Acoustic sealant/intumescent putty to minimise noise coming through it? But as below a bodge, just replace.

We have a leaky trickle vent on a North facing window. I just put Sellotape over it during the winter.

As said, they aren't very expensive but it's only the kitchen and I'm too lazy to replace it.

Thanks for the replies. I don't want to cause issues down the line so have taken the old unit out and ordered a replacement from Triton. Hopefully that will sort out the draught but I suppose I could tape over as well.
