New property and the only connection I can find is this in the basement. I think it's the phone line but can anyone confirm?

Secondly, I understand the area is fibre ready. What work is involved to get fibre installed? I dread to think what floors would have to be lifted to get to the basement from the outside!

Looks like a really old phone jointbox but I'd be amazed if it was live and wouldn't expect to see it in a new build! If area is fibre ready the supplier will connect but will charge or tie you into a contract

What's the best way of approaching this then to see if there is a line here that can be made live? Choose a fibre provider and see what happens when they do some investigation?

You say it's a new property, can you ask the builder? Put your postcode into a broadband search engine then speak to the isp that comes top to get some prices?

That is an old block terminal there should be a lid to it as well , not sure what it's doing in a new build .still see them in service , the line would be on the orange / white .

I'm guessing that in this case new property is new to the OP and not new is in new build?

Looking at the state of that connector and reference to the basement then I am guessing that it is quite old.

Have a look on Sam Knows: https://www.samknows.com/broadband/broadband_check...

Also use the exchange search on there to see what's what.

Should have said the property is new to me.

Have checked Sam Knows and it states FTTC ready so do I just pick a supplier and see what happens?

Yup, just order a new line and package and tell them where you want it installed. Take a look at Plusnet, I'm with them and have no issues.

OP. Are the phone lines on poles? Or underground? If the later, they'll just re-use the old cable that's been in the ground for the past 80 years.

Some of the fun & games we went through. Yours should be much simpler, but BT have it down as an artform making everything harder then it needs to be!

With that block terminal it will be underground . It may well be an abandoned cable .
