Just for easy comparison, what are you paying a month for gas and electricity?
For the last 12 months it was 2300 pounds - good grief.

£200 a month is definitely crazy!

I live in a 3 bed mid terraced house, very old construction, solid stone walls, roof insulation to 1970's standards, and it has a flat roof extension and dormer windows. Through December I averaged 8.8 kWh per day of electricity and 34 kWh of gas. Total average combined spend under £900 per year. I work from home too, so the heating is on all day.

Admittedly, electricity usage was higher when there were more of us living here (gas hasn't changed noticeably). But nowhere near what you're using, it has never been above 20 kWh per day, and that's with all of us using an electric shower, washing (and tumble drying) laundry almost daily, and me leaving several desktop PCs running 24x7.

Every light in my house is now LED bulb, except the kitchen which is fluorescent tubes. Gradually changing over from halogen bulbs has made a notable difference.

We have a 3 bed house and in December we used 1058kw of gas and 128 kw of electricity so (in comparison to us) your usage is high.

We dont have the thermostat at 20+ though, 16 is plenty.

I just looked at our and the past month and it has been 106 gas and 20 electric but we were off work for 2 weeks and thermostat at 22, normally two tellys, dishwasher, oven, drier and washing machine all running at the same time!

Add in a 30+ year old boiler and its not surprisingly high.

This drops to 6 gas and 15 electric in the summer.

We have just moved into a Bungalow with no gas and two separate air source heat pump setups.

In two weeks we have used 1100Kwh, roughly 79KwH/day at around £11/day.
Even accounting for the weather this is somewhat more that we were expecting.

I am experimenting with the settings.
The previous owner took all the curtains including the conservatory ones. New ones are being procured as soon as we can.

Why 2 heat pumps? My neighbour has a 3 story 5 bed house and has just the one.

One system is only for a new extension for en suite/dressing room and includes the main bedroom, rest of house is on the other system.

Lots of Mitsubishi kit, each room has also got a heat/cool unit too e.g. PKFY-P50VHM
The previous owner's business was commercial installs.

When we moved into our place 12 years ago we ended up paying £2100 for gas alone each year the first couple of years, it is a Georgian 3000 sq/ft apartment on the 1st top floor with two attic rooms, neither of which have any insulation at all.

First thing with a wirelss 'stat, set to come on at 7.30am at 19ºc, then go off at 8.45am, and come on again at 12.45pm at 20ºc till 1.45pm, then again at 3.15pm till 11pm at 20ºc.

This is instead of the old 'stat that was simply set to 20ºc when we got up and turned off when we went to bed.

This reduced our bill down to around £1300 a year.

Two years ago we put in a new Bosch Worchester 32cdi combi boiler replacing the old Poettern Combo 100, that brought it down to around £900.

We then insulated our conservatory with Superquilt and palster boarded it, we put in a 2.5kw electric rad in there, and we use that room all the time. Now the rad is costing me around £12-15 a month to run from Nov through to around March, but we have knocked the rest of the house down 1ºc in the morning and 2ºc at lunch time and in the evening, which means we are now down to £55 a month direct debit, and when I gave a meter reading last Friday it said I am £180 in credit, so still paying too much.

Decent 'stat makes the most difference imho, then decent boiler, which has paid for itself in 2 years, and using a small electric unit in the room where you sit I do think works, if of course you can turn the rest of the house down a couple of degrees.

Op if it makes you feel any better we are currently in an all electric 2 bed second floor flat in Bromley with electric underfloor heating. Old fashioned manual stats all round and no timer for the hot water. electricity bill has averaged £150 a month over the last year! Did I mention there is no heating at all in the bathroom? And that the underfloor heating doesn't work in the hallway or lounge? New central heating system with mod cons on the way soon and cannot wait!!

Christ. To give you a bit of perspective, I pay about 2 grand annually for electric and heating oil for a Grade II listed 5 bed detached 18th century property. And I work from home!

Wow.

I live in a 4 bedroom detached with every conceivable electric appliance and lights like Blackpool illuminations left on all the time by the other half and the electric is using 18kw/day.

If you are using over 40kw a day there must be a cannabis farm in the attic or the house next door has a feed from your meter. Something is amiss somewhere.

I have a small 60s built 3 bed, just me and the girlfriend but we have the heating on more than most due to my parrot... Just checked our last bill and we've averaged 26kw gas per day and 8kw electricity, so yeah, I'd say yours is very high!

You got a grow on or something? laugh

We have just moved into a 3 bed semi. EDF have guesstimated debit £105 a month to cover electric and gas. There are but 2 of us in the house, 24/7. Our thermostat is in the front room, where we general linger. It is set to 21 during the day, and I turn it down to 18 when we go to bed.

Embarrassingly I can't understand how to set it to auto...... it is written is poorly translated Serbo Croat.

We've only been in 3 weeks so it will take a while to get it all sorted out.

I live in a similar house, and the OH is also keen on using power....
annual average 14kw/day power , gas 19kw/day. £800 or so a year.

40kw a day says something is going on.
