The boiler's been working since 1992, now BG has said it's unsafe because the plate is missing.

They've never noticed before, is it really unsafe or are they just playing it safe?

It looks like I won't be able to get the plate so it's either a new boiler or could I get a local engineer just to reconnect the boiler and fix the kettling?

My gas supplier is BG.

Well bit the bullet and got a new boiler, Scottish Gas came in with a quote which I thought was a reasonable 2570 for a coventional Worcester Bosch with Hive control. Also the 15 pounds a month I was paying for no call out fee cover is free for the first year, they also fitted a new immersion heater.

They were pretty good these last few years, always next day fitted a lot of new parts, pump, zone valve, fan and 2 PCBs.

Wish I'd done it years ago, the new boiler is almost silent, now I can work in peace on the dining room PC without the constant clicking of the relay.

I have a large open plan living room/dining room which to heat would be OK but the problem is the open staircase which is where all the heat goes, with this Hive system I can set whatever temperature I like, the apps pretty cool too.

Told you smile They'd condemn it if you had one too many apples in your fruitbowl.

Still, £2,570 for a new cover plate seems a bargain hehe

Wonder why they didn't condemn it years ago, they spent a small fortune keeping it running. Anyway glad I'm rid of the old PoS biggrin

Years ago the solution to Kettering was to put a bit of washing up liquid in the system.
