Anyone have any experience of these?

Considering purchases one like this http://www.petplanet.co.uk/product.asp?dept_id=932...

Couple of extra questions.:

1) We are moving from the UK to Ireland in two months. If we eventually have another cat from Ireland will the microchip be compatible?

2) How do you set them up?

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Mate-Elite-Microchip-Timer-Control/dp/B009GODTTK I've got one of these. Just follow the instructions and it's simple to use. You need to get your cat used to sticking their head against the flap so it reads the chip and they will probably not get it at first but the instruction show you how to train them or get them adjusted. Me I just pushed them through a few times and stood the other side when they were hungry with food.

We have the same thing but the 'hole' is a tad small. Our Norman is a chunky fellow but not fat and he won't fit through it.

After buggering about with a useless Staywell infra-red catflap, a friend recommended a product called a 'Sureflap.' It was conceived and designed as a completely new solution by a professor at Cambridge university, if I remember correctly.

Anyway I bought one around 2009-ish, and it has been absolutely faultless since, it is still working perfectly now. As I recall, it was also pretty straightforward to set it up for my cat - and as of now 8 odd years later, it's still letting the same cat in and out whilst stopping other ones from gaining access.

I thoroughly recommend - Link here

I got a dog flap to accomodate our largest cat.

Sureflap doesn't work on either of my cats. Christ knows how deep the chips are buried.

Yep I have a sureflap

As long as you keep it clean it's fine. Did have a bit of drama where it got dirt over the reader.
I cleaned it up and changed the batteries but put one in wrong. Realised the next day when the cats weren't co I get in the house

Thanks for all the replies.

Looks like we will buy the Sureflap one.

Will buy it in Ireland so it comes with a guarantee but that for the offer of the pre used one.

Next door have about five cats so should be interesting
