Amongst that tangle of pipes is a little riser with a bleed screw on it, open it with the pump off and it should fix your problem.

Yep just done that. No air or water seemed to be released. Would that be correct?
Thanks

Have you topped up the pressure in the system?

Fair play mate that's a horrible looking bit of plumbing, whoever plumbed it up was a bit rubbish...the pump is pumping down ...never a good idea. I can see why your struggling to get the airlock out...have you undone the silver screw on the pump and the air vent going into the cylinder ? Pump needs to be on full power.

Do you have more photos of the pipes around the round 'tank' on the bottom right of this photo.

That is an expansion tank and there is normally a 'fill loop' plumbed in close to it from the mains.

If you can post more pics the pipe may be identifiable. They are usually braided stainless steel with a small valve at each end.

There is a rubber washer inside the airlock cap. This will be stuchto the fitting. Carefully remove the cap. Pick the rubber washer off the top of the fitting being careful to catch the water that will squirt out and may be hot.

Do you realise he has drained the system, but hasn't re-filled it?

No. I haven't read that much detail.

Just pointing out the OP stated he had no hot water from taps.

Didn't mention heating.

He's replaced the pump... fitted it the wrong way? Looks ok to me but a thought.

Or incorrect wiring from the pump missing a wire.

Whoever did the install fitted the pump pumping down not up so it won't naturally clear itself of air, once it's vented it will be fine but sometimes they can be a pest to vent.
I don't think there is a filling loop as such the round vessel looks to be an air separater of some kind and the pipe going up is probably a combined feed and vent ? Would that be correct op ? You have a small tank in loft ?

whoever installed the cylinder hasn't appeared to have installed an energy cut-out.

Hi. Can you elaborate on this? It's sounds safety critical!
