Good luck hunting Mr T.

Happy to be a friendly second opinion (as if you ever needed one!) lol.

Hi Tonker, I live nearby (Churt) Run/walk across Frensham every weekend and commute from there.

Trip to Horsley is a bit of a fag from Farnham, have a look at Haslemere. Train is excellent (every 15 on the way home) whereas Farnham is every 30.

Closer to A3, Still loads of hills, walking nearby.

Frensham not yet overun by travellers ! - is a beautiful spot for sure, real hidden gem.

Farnham has more action though, no question.

PM me if you want any details.

Well I go on at Hindhead and up the A3 so do that junction from the other side. Mostly at around 7:15. It is ok but every so often someone stuffs it up at the junction and then it can be 30 minutes. So leave home 7:15 - hit Woking about 8:00am - 20 miles. Leave at 7:30 - then about 8:30

Don't think it is absurd commute from either side, but it can be slow there.

If you are Churt though its about 15-20 minutes to the Farnham roundabout.... or about five to the A3 at Hindhead.

So if you are schlecking to Horsley and determined to use the A31 then Farnham is better.

That section - tunnel to Guildford is fine at that time of the morning. way quicker than Frensham via Farnham to Horsley

Plus there is a back way behind Goldaming if the traffic is really bad

All those areas are lovely, but for the transport etc i'd be looking at areas round godalming, lots of nice houses, and guildford station close by

Your wish-list is going to need close to a million in that area.
Good luck!

Plenty if detached sub £1m, though the neighbours will be relatively close, I grant you.

But yes the villages get prices real quick round here.

Have you thought about renting initially so you can get more of a feel for the area? We moved from London to Haslemere in 2005 and fluked the house choice to be honest as we weren't familiar with the area at all. In hindsight we probably should have rented.

The drive up the A3 somedays is totally clear and then others the traffic northbound can be solid from Witley/Milford to north of Guildford - biggest bottleneck is where A31 and A3 merge and the hospital turnoff at Guildford. Same on way back in the evening when jams can start a mile or two north of Guildford.

There are some nice villages around Guildford which could potentially take the bottlenecks out of the equation but more expensive than Haslemere/Farnham.

I wouldn't look at Dunsfold due to proposed new developments and the local boys that like to help themselves to things from your garage/shed....

I was at Pierrepont as a boarder smile probably long before your time biggrin

Mark give me a shout if you want to know area or property (I've lived in Farnham since i left uni pretty well) but I'm afraid I'm no use for commuting knowledge.

My gut feeling is for your school run you've got to be looking at Guildford?

I have a couple in Guildford but they wouldn't suit your requirements. I can introduce you to a couple of agents?

Morning Tonks, the Portsmouth service (fast) stops Haslemere, Guildford, Woking - twice an hour, the others stop at milford witley, worplesden godalming etc - so are slower.

Ususally at Haslemer you can get a seat on the fast, about 9/10 - worst case you can usually find someone getting off at Guildford.

I used to get the 7:02 - and it was rare I didn't get a seat.

As you have identified, closer in - virtually no chance.

Always get a seat at Haslemere. Odds decrease as you get to Guildford depending on what time you're getting on.

A new two level car park has just been completed at Haslemere so waiting list may have gone now? Took me eight years to the day to get mine!

I can get to Covent Garden from Peterborough as quickly as my boss, and she lives inside the M25.

Don't know how you guys suffer that commute in every day ...

Your boss must live on a very poor train line in that case!

I live in Chiddingfold (as does Garlick, formerly of this parish).

Witley station is 2 minutes away and although the trains aren't as frequent as they are from Haslemere or Godalming, there are plenty of seats in the morning, and there is parking available. If you get to Waterloo 10-15 mins before departure, you always get a seat on the way home too.
