The train from Ely to KX whilst direct takes about 1 hour 25 minutes if you are lucky. The trains are packed and often delayed.
I did the commute plus 1 tube stop for 6 months and it was torture. The trains back out of KX are particularly busy.

You also need to be in the car park at the Station before 7 or you will not get a space. I live 6 miles from Ely and my commute was just over 2 hours door to door.

I know of a few people who have given up jobs in London after thinking that they could manage the commute and 2 divorces because of the stress and long hours away from home.

Unless travelling in first class the trains are not particularly pleasant to be on.

I live in Ely (see earlier posts) and I don't find it bad - just to provide an alternative opinion to the above!

Do you live in Littleport (you mentioned ~6 miles distance)?

My second home was a 3 bed with one master and 2 small spare bedrooms. Severely restricted the market that you try and sell on to. Personally, I wouldn't make the same mistake again.

Depends on if you prefer to do things up yourself slowly or you want something finished inside but personally, I would prefer this by stretching myself a tiny bit +/- try to negotiate a bit on the price:

http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/prope...

3 decent sized bedrooms - check
Detached - check
Off street parking - check
Get out of your car when you're on your drive - check
Garage which you can use as a workshop - check
Garden - check
Outside / local area - looks good, better than the other one if anything
Inside - needs some work, some, including me, would prefer to buy in this sort of state anyway. Liveable but modernise to your own taste without ripping out brand new stuff.
Hi All,

thank you each and every one of you for the advice - we have decided not to make an offer - the reason - pretty much everything that was suggested - "if you have to think about it, the answer is no"

we were caught up in the romance - the kitchen was lovely and the standard was good.

also - it was in 'speed lane' - im gutted.. would love to have answered that when a traffic cop asks where do i live....

here is a link to the original property if anyone is interested.. looks a dog from outside but our thoughts were we could spend a few grand tarting that up - glad we didn't now..

http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/prope... - original property

to QuickQuack - we are going to see that place tomorrow, it was already on our radar smile - its been on rightmove since july so an an offer <£20k seems in order smile

If there is no urgent need to relocate, I'd be inclined to keep looking.

I've bought 3 houses, and each time looked at loads. Eventually you'll find the place that feels right from the moment you walk in.

I apply the same rule to buying classic cars - if you feel any doubt, walk away. The one time I ignored that rule was the only one I regretted (and got rid).
With one gloss I'd agree with this.

You walk into a house and one of two reactions means you should buy it. First, "I can move in here tomorrow and love it". Secondly "I know that if I do this this and this with this house I will love it".

Bedroom sizes are very hard to fix without major extensions to the house. I'd keep looking.

ETA: 6 minutes late!

Looks good and potential to improve to make a large kitchen/diner by removing dividing wall when kitchen needs a refurb.

yeh that is exactly the intention... every room needs extensive modernisation - we have reflected this in the offer smile

Totally. First place just looked aesthetically horrific. Literally zero kerb appeal.
