Just about to pull the trigger on a oak framed garage, I want to automate the doors, most come with softwood standard double doors for each opening (this is a triple garage), i would like say the convince of a roller type door but with the aesthetics of the softwood doors smile, without costing the earth, anyone any suggestions or pics of what they have done...

If you've gone for the full oak frame including all the bracing then to preserve the look aren't you limited to doors that open ?
That said wooden doors " move " so locking ( say with a 5 lever mortice lock ) can be an issue.
Obviously a roller door ( can u get made of fibreglass or composite to look like wood ?) would be great.
We had to leave our oak garage open and then put doors on an old barn to compromise and maximise car storage.

I built an oak framed garage and fitted a Hormann sectional up and over door painted in a colour to match the house windows. Zero maintenance, secure and convenient.

You could go for solid Oak doors on a track system that open and slide to the side, like this (but obviously not painted):

Thanks, guess I need to stick to the standard opening ones, I thought maybe the roller type would look more like the standard doors, maybe I can fit auto openers on those

Thanks Phil that looks very similar to the style of garage as well, in your view is the up and over better than opening outwards?

In my view yes, we had 20mm gravel in that house which was fine as the cars didn't really pick it up and trail it into the garage ( or more specifically the garage opening) every time a bit of gravel gets in the opening it jams / stops the doors.

We now are having outwards opening and they are a right pain as you have more contact with the floor I.e the whole sweep of the doors to get caught on gravel etc whereas the up and over only have contact for the final close

If that makes sense
