The photo above is taken from the bottom of our garden looking back towards the house. I want to fence off the drop / water from the kids. Eventually they will play down there (its small and slow running but will be a lot of fun) but its more for toddler-age to stop accidents.

Is there something you can buy on a roll? Or is it going to be best to just make something out of bits of wood? The drop at the LHS of the pic is about 12 feet down into a pool before the stream turns out of our garden so it needs to be robust. I would think it will have to last 5 or 6 years.

My first thought would be something like cleft fencing rolls and a few posts.

Plant a row of bushes with a gate in the middle?

Its visible from the house, so anything too substantial (like a row of bushes) will visually shorten the garden - if I can get that cleft fencing (thanks, didnt know that was the name for it!) in 60cm high it will be good, as then it can be stepped over by adults but will contain kids.

2' high fencing will not contain children over about 2 years old! FACT!

I'd go with this. From the house you'd only see the posts every 6'

How about:

Along with a set of:

I've done something similar behind our hedge at the bottom of the garden to stop the dog escaping.

I second stock fencing, we have a 2 year old and I have just had 2 sides of our perimeter done (70m of fencing and a few extras for £400 in Scotland).

You could fit the posts yourself and its pretty easy to nail on, would recommend an access gate.

We want to do beech hedge but have a road close by and this type of mesh is difficult to get past! So we have fitted this and will put a hedge in front of it eventually.
