Any decent insurer will cover such things. Don't buy off the shelf.

I'm just off the phone from LV.
Yerone repeated a few times (I kept asking) that the garage contents were covered along with the house contents, race motorbike and all.

Waiting for the policy documents to come on d'email now, I'll have a read of them when they arrive and see what lies within.

Update: Read docs and rang back to question it; LV won't touch the bike for love nor money but tools & garage contents are covered once they're for personal & not business use.

Wesleyan Ultra Home, NFU Mutual and Hiscox Private Client seem to be the only ones which cover all outbuildings and their contents without weaseling out of stuff in their small print.

Is your garage integral or detached? If it's integral then LV cover it, if it isn't then you will have a max 2K cover. I fell foul of this.

Incidentally - just had our house and contents renewal through yesterday from LV (500K building and 125K contents). They want £1534. You read that right. No we don't live in a st area, though we had a garage burglary in 2014 which they paid the max 2K for (despite me losing about 20K in stuff). We've been with them about 30 years and that's the only claim.

They can fk off.

Bloody hell! Our premium/insured sum ratio is less than half that!

I'm appalled! That's what happens when you get lazy and just renew every year. One thing that did knock it up, by the way, is having a stone built house rather than brick built (for buildings cover), I assume being down to the cost if you burn it down.

As I said above, we are with NFUM. Stone built, five bed Georgian house with detached double garage, detached two bay barn/workshop with office upstairs, stable block, separate stone built garden shed.
Full rebuild cost on everything, £50K house contents and £10K cover on contents of outbuildings cost around £650 last year. This was the first year with them. They had quoted unsuccessfully at about £1300 when we moved in the previous year but quoted at renewal at the lower price.
Considering increasing the outbuildings contents cover this year and expecting a small increase in premium.

I'll try them. That LV renewal we got is a total disgrace.
