You could put yr own fence up, tight against the original line. Yr not going to lose much garden.

Funnily enough 5 panels have gone between me and one of my neighbours

We've agreed to split the cost and I'll do the work. We haven't even cared about whose fence it is.

i would struggle to pay £350 straight away as i am, too ill to work . but i would prioritise the repair as i always make an effort to get on with my neighbours.
i would probably put the materials on my credit card and pay the labour cash.
nothing is worse for me than not getting on with my neighbours

One of our shared fences came down in the night a couple of years ago, I came home from work that afternoon to find our neighbour had pretty much already fixed it and replaced the broken panels. I went out to thank him and offer a contribution but he refused, so I left a crate of beer by his front door the next morning.

Good neighbours are priceless, i've already told him that he's not allowed to move until we do.

4 years ago my neighbours Eucalyptus tree came down, straight through the fence between us, and because of its height through the fence between me and my neighbour the other side. He and a friend of his cleared the tree, in the process cutting down an apple tree in my garden that had been a wedding anniversary present from my wife.

Two weeks later I replaced the fence between me and the neighbour on the opposite side. Refused to do the one between me and the Eucalyptus tree on the basis I had offered to help him trim it before it got so big. Did though offer to help him erect a replacement. However in the lack of any action I stuck some stock fencing in the gap to keep our dog in.

He got around to replacing the fence in September. In between he has replaced his van, bought a new TV, new sound system, done his kitchen, bought his kids, horses, iPads, computers, lizards etc!
