Rough cost to have a new bathroom done.
Discussion
Having no idea if you are a) diy savvy b) wedged up so would rather pay for trades c) size of the bathroom - but, the cost can be quite substantially reduced through:
1. you strip the bathroom out, getting, if necessary, a plumber in for a couple of hours to deal with closing out hep pipes/rad/toilet etc
2. you line the bathroom and floor with cement board, if necessary, ready for tiling
3. you fit the bath - its on four legs, suggest steel ones made by Roca as they are very stable
or,
find a independent tradesman and play his apprentice.
as a guide, Im refitting an ensuite in my house, my gf is going halves so is watching every penny and so far...
Roca 1700 steel bath + Grohe taps is @£190 from ridgeons
Plumber was £55 for two hours sorting out the old pipes, rad etc
Cement board was @£100 inc glues and fixings to existing wall and floor
All materials taken out I took to council skip - free
To do:
sparks for 1/2 day setting up x 4 LEDS in roof and new extractor fan in loft so £110
tiling: gf wants to do it having practiced on several boards and realising she has a talent for it. tiles yet to be purchased.
flooring: marble @£36sqm - we only need 6 sqm plus fixing
toilet: ideal standard £140 B&Q
Sink unit - yet to be purchased, i have issues paying out for an mdf unit costing £250-300 so am still looking at options.
my plan has been
1. strip out
2. cement board around bath/shower and basin area
3. sparks first fix
4. plaster ceiling and wall damage from sparks chasing etc
5. fit bath
6.tile bathroom and floor
7. fit toilet and basin, reconnecting water supply, soil pipe etc
8. commission new electrics
9. paint
totally understand if you aren't familiar with the process and it can feel daunting but a lot of the early work and end work is achievable by the house owner, if they so wish to try

Fitted my own bathroom in a terraced house I rent out for £580.00 for everything.
I got the bath for £25.00 as it had no legs
Tiles £7.00 per metre
Vanity unit with sink £70.00
Toilet £40.00
Bath panels £100.00
Taps including shower mixer £110.00
Flooring £60.00
Toilet seat £20.00
Shower Screen £60.00
The rest was on bits and bobs of plumbing materials and tile adhesive.
My bathroom at home was £5k though.

Also the plinth on the bath panel looks like it's on the front rather than behind?
Maybe stick to the day job.

We have a quote for our bathroom, includes new ceiling, new floor, shower, WC, basin, bath, tiling (but not the tiles) and floor covering. Quote is £8500 from someone I have known for years, so trust them. They have to strip the room, remove the wooden wall covering we currently have etc, so we plan to go away during the works.
8.5k??? what are you having installed? a swimming pool???We did ours for £6200, which included total rip out to a bare shell, new electrics for illuminated and heated mirror, extractor fan (none fitted previously), underfloor heating and an illuminated shaving mirror. I sourced all the stuff from online, through variously Victoria Plum, Bella Bathrooms and a couple of smaller places. The furniture is largely Tavistock, which the plumber commented was nicely made and came fully assembled. This was a pretty thorough job, with lots of cheap push fit plastic redone in copper, boxing in removed and underfloor heating installed.

Don't forget that profit is a dirty word, especially on here.
However, it is nice to see that a lot of members refuse to make any, on services they provide.
Totally agree, we are lucky in that we know a few trade guys in our village and I have open and honest conversations with them about the job at hand. I don't want them to go broke working for me, but I want to pay a fair price. However, it is nice to see that a lot of members refuse to make any, on services they provide.
The words "just a simple" can rarely be applied to almost any task as one the cosmetic top layer comes off there can be all kinds of horrors underneath. For instance our pipework in the bathroom had clearly been DIY installed and I wanted it all replaced, which the plumber preferred as well because it would make sure it was all tight and OK. We agreed the modest extra cost for this and on we went.

Could you possible tell me the names and where you bought the tiles? ThanksPhill_1981 said:

No problem, tiles were all Victoria Plum and as one of the most expensive bits the option to 0% finance it was most welcome!Mosaic stone tile 300mm x 300mm - 1 sheet for shower and surround.
Metropolis dark grey matt tile 248mm x 498mm for the walls
Metropolis light grey matt tile 248mm x 498mm for the window surround (to reflect the light in)
Metropolis mid grey matt tile 331mm x 331mm for the floor

Yes that was often my biggest issue, I had to take a brave pill and just put them together as so few sites show them in context! Or even worse they show them mixed with another tile and don't appear to have that tile!Is it just me, or is it almost impossible to find a decent tradesman nowadays.
Must have contacted 20 people to refit our bathroom, had reply's from less than half of them and only 5 have visited to quote.
Of those 5:
- 2 have yet to provide a quote despite visiting over 2 weeks ago
- 1 Polish guy was frankly too cheap to trust
- 1 would only fit products they supplied and were adding a 40+% markup on them (a £425 shower being invoiced at £700)
- 1 wanted £5500 plus VAT just for the labour
I'm happy to pay between £6 & £7k, for what is a reasonably simply job (no moving of pipework, not too much tiling but frankly the industry just seems filled with jokers!

Not sure where in the country you are but it sounds like you need the OP from this thread! https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...Must have contacted 20 people to refit our bathroom, had reply's from less than half of them and only 5 have visited to quote.

I think my plumber is relatively cheap compared to what i'm hearing here.
We are based in Cambridge and the bathroom will be roughly 4x3m
Current set up
Separate toilet and bathroom
the toilet is next to the master bedroom (bungalow)
Airing cupboard cuts into bathroom
Separate shower cubical in bathroom (not over bath like most)
Works planned:
Both rooms to be completely gutted
Shower cubical and airing cupboard to be smashed out making bathroom square (ish) and give room for a toilet to be installed.
Door of separate toilet to be bricked up and a new doorway put in the master bedroom for access - shower to be fitted in toilet making en-suite
All plumbing, labour, fixtures, paint, plaster, knocking out and decoration etc included all we have to do is buy 1 x shower enclosure, 2 x showers, 2 x sinks, 2 x toilets, 1 x bath and the tiles (going for the massive ones)
he has quoted £6000 - we estimate the whole project around £8500
Considering the scale of works i think that is good...
