My fiesta ST lease is up in June and if the lease 'offers' of the last two months are anything to go by, the signs aren't very promising in the short term with impending tax rises and no doubt more brexit apportioned increases then it's looking likely that I'll choose to buy something for the next 18/24 months until my Tesla arrives.

That being the case, my criteria are as follows:
Up to £15k (18k at a push)
Ideally less then 3 years old ( though will go older for something special)
Less then 50k on the clock ( ideally 40k)
Petrol
5 door
Auto
Quick (say 280bhp+)

I'll want something that won't depreciate too much and will most probably put 40k on it.

I want something exciting.

What would your money be on?

Bit older and higher mileage than you said you want, but it's got a six pot engine which makes up for everything else.

Shouldn't depreciate too much looking at previous gen 135i prices.

I have been looking at these, really like the look , a lot rarer than the mk7 and that, in my eyes is a very good thing.

14/64/15 plate Golf R mk7 DSGs will be around £17k-£18k in June. Should have plenty to choose from with less than 40,000 miles. You're welcome. smile

This was the car i was leaning towards but the sheer volume of them on the road, combined with the knowledge most will be ex lease and potentially driven very hard put me off.

Would another good lease deal tempt you back into the leasing world?

Focus ST? Not 280+ but not far off, and familiar territory coming from the Fiesta.

They just don't get my excited. I only took the fiesta st as it was cheap, plus i have a friend who had made the switch and regrets it, a lot.

This is the case with all second hand cars. Lease or not doesn't make a difference. Some people will thrash a PCP car or an outright purchase car because they know they're only realistically keeping it for 2-4 years. You just need to look for the signs; miss match ling long tyres, kerbed wheels, interior damage, not sticking to the service interval, signs of modifications etc. You could buy a 4 year old ex lease car and have no problems or you could buy a 1 year old ex-demo and have it explode. Luck of the draw and a degree of research.

I couldn't agree more, though something sticks out more than usual with a second hand golf r, maybe it's just in my head, either way it's in my head now unfortunately.

Some cars attract a certain type of owner. For example, along with the Golf R the Fiesta ST is a car I wouldn't touch second hand having seen the way the majority seem to be driven..

Can't disagree with that, luckily I'm not in the market for another!
