Writing on behalf of my brother, as he doesn't have a clue about forums.
But he has a 997.2, nice car but the rear lights are full of condensation, to a point where when we opened them up, the circuit board in one of them had rust spots. On this light unit, the light doesn't fully function, indicator, reverse and flog light work but no rear light or brakes illuminate.

Is this common on a 997.2 and is it possible to get the light repaired ?

thanks in advance

Is the car covered by any warranty?

The Porsche warranty hasn't always covered condensation, but has covered failures of this type.

Common. Drill some drain/vent holes and it will dry out. Careful not to drill the pcb. The duff one is probably knackered

not sure if its warranty but possible to repair the PCB if it is problematic ?

drain/vent holes can then be sorted out before refitting the lights

I've a feeling that the Porsche later lights have drain holes already.

Rather than buying a whole new light unit have a repair specialist look at it - someone who repairs ECUs etc should be able to do something if it's not absolutely mullered.

I feel his pain, my 997.2 has the clear LED tail lights and both have condensation in them, this is due to the joint between the clear and coloured plastic failing and letting in water.

The units have an eye watering price of around £900 each so glad to have an opc warranty. The warranty only covers replacement if there are drops of water inside, light misting is not covered.

The other issue is the lights on my car have yellow colour LEDs and the replacement one has clear LEDs so they don't match. I am hoping Porsche will agree to replace both units so they look the same..

They're £900 a pair not £900 each.

From Design911 they are £830 + VAT for a pair, from an OPC they are £900 each, plenty of porsche tax payable at the opc.

Maybe your OPC got confused - have a look on the Porsche tequipment website and they're under £900 for a pair. I was quoted £850 including VAT for a pair by my OPC.

Design 911 are often more expensive than an OPC!

When they do warranty work, they want to impress the customer.
