Hi All

We're in the process of finishing building a holiday home (taking over from the previous owner) - the shell of the house is already built as seen in the photos and roof is on (although needs some attention). We've already decided to paint the house white and we're debating what colour windows to have. Options are:
French Grey
Antracite Grey
Irish Oak

We like the greys, but aren't sure if they'll clash too much with the roof colour.

Also we're slightly worried about whether the anthracite would face substantially over time.

Any ideas appreciated!

Cheers

White render and grey windows is very popular around here, seems to be a good look. Though I'd probably prefer wood colour windows as more classic/timeless, think the grey is a bit fashionable.. Or you mean painting the bricks white?

If it helps, we have a cottage with red pan tiles, white render and F&B French Grey woodwork and to be honest it doesn't look right against the red roof. Personally I'd go with anthracite or maybe even a cream render with white windows.

Should have said the brick will be rendered then painted white.

Cheers

Cheers. Do you think the anthracite would look ok then?

We thought about cream render with white windows but there's a lot of house like that in the area and want something a bit different.

I wouldn't like to say for sure that it would look ok but I suspect it would clash less than the greeny colour of F&Bs French grey. If they were slim profile aluminium windows I'm sure they'd look great! If you look at houses and cottages in North Yorkshire seaside towns they mainly have red pan tile roofs so you might get an idea which colour combinations work.

Edit: Here's my mate's villa with anthracite windows and white render. Looks good to me!

Where's it at in the world and what do the other houses in the area look like ? You can do far worse than blend in with what's expected for when or if you come to sell up . No one I know with a holiday house has ever said they will sell but everyone I know has , me included , make sure it's saleable in the future , and not just to the English market !

The island of Hvar, Croatia.

Mixture of traditional stone cottages withe tiled roofs and wooden effect windows and a few new builds in traditional style with the same.

Yes the beam in that corner is damaged so needs replacing.

Thanks! We've been going to Croatia every year for a decade now, and got married on Hvar last year so thought we should finally get a place there!

Never been over to brac but it's on the list of places to visit!

Just saw this and thought of your thread. Nice look but not sure its good for your location. Grey windows will be nice.

Another one I've just seen! White windows. I personally think it looks great with white windows and could really suit your location.

As someone else notes, I wouldn't go too left field. The environment may well just suit the look of "similar" houses.

Have a good scout round. White or anthracite seem the nicest to my eyes.

That looks very nice- was thinking that white windows wouldn't work, but may have been wrong!

Yes, there's a fine balance between it looking individual and standing out too much!

It's all about the local environment but be careful re fashion, a few local houses have the "white render with grey windows look". I reckon it's starting to look dated already.

Just take a look @ all the 90's places with dark brown frames

This was a popular choice once.
