It's all about the local environment but be careful re fashion, a few local houses have the "white render with grey windows look". I reckon it's starting to look dated already.
Just take a look @ all the 90's places with dark brown frames

Good point about the future - I don't think the white/grey look is dated yet, but could do at some point like the brown you mention. Whereas white windows have been around longer than any of the upvc colours and it still doesn't look dated. Just take a look @ all the 90's places with dark brown frames

Didn't think choosing a window colour would be so difficult!

Some of the UPVC, shades just don't always look right.

To be fair my parents' house is not dissimilar in terms of colour-ways, but significantly better in terms of execution so looks nowhere near as dated. This was a popular choice once.

I think the right shade on the right frame and right house looks fine, this one's wood so'll need repainting regularly, if it looks wrong, it can be changed easily.

Personally I'd say that would look better with a darker grey or even a green (sage or a more grey/green). But that's subjective of course. Some of the UPVC, shades just don't always look right.
The advice on uPVC is good. Wood windows are much easier to colour change.
