Guys first Porsche and it's a late 07 4.8 S 77k 957 model.
Last owner spent £6k in 2016 not inc service mainly on new cam chain and hp fuel pump!!
Question is:

Around town temp gauge in middle and oil temp spot on, when on motorway the water temp drops to virtually 40 deg or as low as it can - can't be right ?

Back lights are own led and it's lost a few of them, does anyone fix them or are they fixable ?

It's got pcm but I need Bluetooth is mobridge the best option ?

Everything else is spot on and it's in lovely condition - will take pic today

Hi

I have a 957 07 registered Cayenne Turbo 4.8. I have exactly the same issue with the temp variation you describe. I also have the engine management light triggered (it does reset itself after a number of start cycles, but will invariably come on again). It is booked into Porsche Cambridge next Wednesday for some diagnostics (as well as a service and MOT), since the local independent specialist's attempt to diagnose has proved inconclusive. The car runs sweetly, even when the light is on, without any apparent adverse issues (no smoke, no misfire, no power reduction - all completely normal)

I have changed the coolant temp sensor but this has not cured the problem. Previously I had an issue with oil feed actuator in Bank 1 which had also triggered the engine management light and this was replaced by Porsche East London at not inconsiderable cost, mostly covered by a warranty. Oddly one of the possible issues is the same actuator. Fault codes that the indie recorded were:

P1248 Basic Boost Pressure adaption
P0016 Position of intake camshaft to crankshaft, bank 1 (Above limit value)
P2181 Cooling system performance stored.

MAF Sensors all working correctly

There is a 10 degree deviation on the camshaft on bank 1 - pointing to a possible actuator (Would be surprised as it was replaced in May 2015) or stretched timing chain - which may account for P0016 code. Also thermostat could be sticking open resulting in over cooling.

I am happy to let you know what they diagnose and if the temp issue is related to the triggering of the engine management light.

I had a MoBridge bluetooth / ipod system fitted a couple of years ago. If you have the BOSE sound system you need to be careful what you go for...MoBridge is compatible with Bose systems. Also all steering wheel controls will work for phone / volume etc and iPod can be interfaced through the PCM - although operation is a bit complex and far from intuitive, but it works well nonetheless.

Cheers much appreciated - the fault code actually says Stat stuck open lol - so thats that ! £480 all in to change the £65 part at my indie. I also have a few old codes relating to the HP pump which has been changed and the seatbelt sensor / occupancy which I think has been turned off - I will investigate.
On the Mobridge do you have a model number or is it just one ? my car has bose.

I will dig out the manual tonight. Since I had it fitted a couple of years ago, likely that my model has been superseded. You could also give MoBridge a call and they will help you out to identify what you need. Mine was about £900 installed.

So...my stat also stuck open...

EML light triggered by either stretched timing chain on Bank 1 or Camshaft to Crankshaft position gear. Will require engine out and partial strip to determine for sure. Currently with OPC in Cambridge. Hoping Warranty Direct will help or will be a large bill...25 hours labour!

Also possible leak somewhere in vacuum system affecting Turbo boost pressure..

She is a little poorly...😕

My car had a stretched chain done in 2016 at £4500 inc water pump and followers etc !!!
It's in for the stat tomorrow at £450
I love the car and it's rock solid obviously well engineered but lacking so many things like memory seats, auto dim mirror, cruise and the cd changer doesn't work but the new iPhone link will replace that anyway

So....latest update. All serviced and MOT'd. Still requires timing chain or camshaft position gear replacement on one bank and a fault with the vacuum system affecting boost pressure to be resolved, plus at some stage soon discs and pads all round to be replaced! Thermostat replaced in service which has resolved temp issue. OPC quoting about 6500 for engine work, as it needs to be removed! Thank goodness for warranties is all I can say...by the way, my warranty cost me 1000 last year to renew...Porsche Approved Warranty is only 1020 which is remarkable vfm, given car has 107k and is 11 years old.

Well I didnt know you could buy a warranty for a 10 year old car! I think you need to own the car for 3 months but its definitely a strong reason to keep the car a while. I will ask them today what the terms are

Porsche Approved covers cars up to 15 years old. Must be below 120k miles at inception but unlimited mileage after that. Must have a FSH, but does not have to be Porsche History. Requires a 111 point check for £230 prior to going on cover.

Did they pick much work up on the inspection that had to be done prior to inception of the warranty?

Normal things they pick up on stuff that has fallen out of warranty is:- Non Porsche battery, none N rated tyres amongst others.
Mine is a late 2005 but I suspect bringing it back to Porsche warranty spec & paying for the warranty would be big money. Fine for a 911 but difficult to justify for a sub 10K car.

Don't know yet, having that done when it goes back in for the Engine work. (I have N rated Porsche Spec Pirelli Tyres - never skimp on tyres they are the only thing holding you onto the tarmac. Kamak Ditchfinders or Slidewell Extremes might be cheap but they do what they say on the tin... smile ) and Porsche battery etc etc..I don't foresee any issues with "non standard" fitments...as there aren't any.
