New McLaren BP23 details

First look at the return of the three-seat McLaren

Given what has already emerged from McLaren Automotive over the past half a dozen years, and what is coming in the shape of the 720S, the claims made about the new BP23 are even more remarkable. Apparently the car will be the most powerful and most aerodynamic roadgoing McLaren ever. The P1 and 675LT are most certainly road cars, remember...

Today brings the first of what looks like being many teasers on the latest McLaren, a rear three-quarter view showing big wheels and a rear aesthetic not dissimilar to a Koenigsegg Regera. It's certainly different to anything we've seen of McLaren before, put it that way.

Beyond that there's little more to know now: the promise remains of great luxury, all 106 cars are pre-sold and MSO is working on it as we speak. Customers are expected to receive their cars in 2019 - expect plenty more information before then!

I don't understand why they're only making 106 of them. I know that's how many (first gen) F1s they made. But I read somehwere that they claim they could have sold them three times over...

Because the more you make, the less special they are. This is meant to be top of the pile (for now)

That VW is far more interesting to me - I still hate that they didn't make it. Completely stunning looking thing - total efficiency is as exciting as total performance in many ways - would have had one in a heartbeat.

The centre mount seat thing... I can't get behind that, unless it was a one seater. It stinks of marketing these days. I'm sure it'll be very good, but meh.

I agree. I'm sure we're in for two years of endlessly being drip-fed these 'details' going by what McLaren have done with their recent car launches.

This and the Honda Insight mk1 are my all time favourite eco cars. I love the priority of economy and engineering over practicality of both of them.

If they've already been sold, who cares about the dribble of pictures for the next 2yrs? This sales method pisses me off.

I'm getting old. Increasingly I'm looking to the past for my dream car kicks.
