Southbound on the A34 this afternoon and a white BMW estate with headlights on came steaming up behind me in lane 2, big blue badge on bonnet, driver in white shirt, light bar on roof and three aerials, battenberg on the wings and an amount of kit in the back. Driver then starts using a handheld walkie style radio.
I could not go anywhere because of the traffic and sat and waited for the blue lights, in the meantime I spotted rectangular lights behind the grill too, chap is trying to 'dominate' the road and is too close for comfort, eventually I was able to move over only for him to pass as fast as he could and sit up someone elses backside.
As soon as he was past I could see it had warning stripes on the back and more battenberg on the rear wings... and some stickerage saying it was Motorola!

Really could not have made more of an effort to try and fool people, the guy then sat VERY close up someones backside travelling down an A road with two wheels on the central white lines to intimidate the poor driver in front.

I'm sure someone will tell me this is perfectly acceptable because of micro-detail a,b,c but it really wound me up.

Anyone else seen these Motorola vehicles?

Not Motorola but I see plenty of 'security' vehicles stickered up like this:

The lights on the roof flash orange

I drive a white 5 series F11 with a (clear when off) beacon and I usually wear hi-viz when working (highway maintenance). The novelty is wearing off as everyone drives at 30mph in front of you even when the speed limit is higher.

So the big Motorola branding on the bonnet didn't do it for you?

Might not be the most noticable thing from your mirror, especially with everything else going on at the time.

What sort of business are Motorola Solutions doing which would need them to be stickering up their cars and outfitting their drivers to look like some emergency management agency?

Ha ha smile No more than the BMW branding on the car!

I know what you mean but when there is stuff like this going on ASBO police having one extra sticker viewed from a low angle in a rear view mirror means the car says 'police' way more than 'embittered Deputy Marketing Assistant for Motorola'.

This is pretty common with motorcycles. There is a very small subset of idiots who buy Pan Europeans or BMW tourers and then wear 'POLITE' high viz vests, white flip lids, and black leathers. Some of them are even more 'creative' and stick yellow high viz reflective stickers all over the bike.

I'm told by a legal expert that this is not illegal in and of itself, however if the person in question were to start to behave remotely like a police officer might (tailgating, intimidating, pulling in front of people) That the police would take an extremely dim view and might even arrest the person for impersonating a police officer.

I'd have thought with a white BMW estate with battenberg livery, with a man talking into a radio, tailgating and various other things, if he gets caught (which is the real kicker I think) then he could be in a lot of very serious trouble.

There's a significant difference. Motorola supply and maintain radio equipment for emergency services and the BMW in their livery was at an exhibition, British APCO 2017, in Telford last week.

What's more worrying is whether the contacts he's made in that line of work enables him to get away with this sort of driving.

I've always figured it sensible for the driver of a signwritten vehicle to be be squeaky clean out on the roads. But a plumber driving his employer's van badly is one thing. A chap 'dominating' the road because he knows his company motor is easily mistaken for a police vehicle is a whole other level.

He was driving like a tt and if I'd been the OP I would have phoned Motorola; simple as that.

Which one? Because Motorola Mobility (mobile phones) is now Lenovo, and Motorola Solutions (infrastructure) are no seperate, and I doubt operate a public call centre.

Just treat it like any other tailgating bellend, move over and let them move away from you as quickly as they like, annoying, very annoying but best to have them in front.

It may be 'a' difference between the average 'Polite' motorcyclist and this driver, but it makes no difference to the fact that what both people are doing is wrong, and very dodgy in the eyes of the police and the law. The pertinent question is: "Are they police?" No, then they shouldn't be behaving like this. That's all that matters here. I don't care if they are exclusive German Shepherd breeders for the international anti terrorist ninja commando squadron, they still aren't legit police.
