my current golf is stacking at the miles 94k

We have a big old Honda suv as a family car which the missus is happy with and we have three children, so if i ever have any issues with that car i still need a car that can get us all in it, so two seaters are out the question for now, however for most of the time at weekends we will be in the honda so doesnt need tons of space etc thats why i like the hot hatch size.

so ive always liked the RS3, just looking at prices at the moment, 2014/15 are about 30k.

so my car selection would RS3, new one out at the end of year so might be worth holding on to see how the values go on the a two year old car. sound good and i dont see many on the road but perhaps just a fast S3 but still like them and its the car i keep going back to.

A45 AMG, this is new on my list, love these and heard one the other day and it sounded nice but see so many A classes on the road and it just seems like another merc. liek the styling though.

RS6, prices are just too high but right now if money was no object, thats what id have.

m5 beast of a car but not too keen on the syling.

Didnt really like the look of the honda Civic type R, too mnay angles put me off the styling

the new alfa romeo guila looked nice on top gear the other week but dont really want to go brand new.

not really keen on the new focus RS tbh, its a erm a bit well 20 year old and im pushing forty so not right for me.

anyone owned a RS3 or a A45 AMG and can comment, if not what would you have and why? also am i overlooking another car.

Just dont want something with 40k on the clock and its still costing 30k

thanks

I've driven my friends RS3 & the engine is special, it raises the whole car to another level compared to the S3 but as a fun performance car I'd take the C63 (or a large capacity V8) every time but I'm bias.

2012 C63 16k

2012 C63 28k 4WD version

Other options should you want something else:

2011 IS-F 30k these are a surprsingly fun car.

2012 M5 20k

2012 E63 26k

2010 RS6 25k

Or you could go old school & get a VXR8 they're a very underrated car.

2013 VXR8 5k

The above are where I'd be looking for a fast five seater, the RS3 will always keep it's value better than the A45 as it's a limited edition whereas the A45 is a regular model.

2013 RS3 28k

2014 A45 16k (when you're too old for the Ford doesn't that ring true for a full fat A45?)

I've recently tried a Merc GLA 45 AMG , it' good ! Better looking than the A45 , goes like a stabbed rat , handles well & sounds very fruity . And a nice interior as well . Get one with the pan roof , switchable sports exhaust and HK sound system . It's both practical & grin inducing , Winner .

thankyou both for the comments. didnt even think you could get a c63 for that sort of money and they are lovely. I need to look a the running costs for something like that.

i'm going to run through the list you have provided, thanks so much for that.

Well my C63 averaged 14mpg around town & low 30's on the Motorway servicing was reasonable the big ticket items are the brake discs but the are some decent alternatives now so that shouldn't put you off.

Plus the grin on your face when you start it up makes up for the fuel consumption.

As a comparison my friends RS3 is averaging 18mpg around town so not a lot in it & his services seem to be similar in costs, my brothers M3 (4.0) actually costs him more in servicing costs than my current CLK63 & my old C63

The M3 saloon is hard to find at your price point & mileage requirements but are worth a look.

To be honest the brakes are pretty robust, tyres make a big difference I ran Vredesteins which are a good tyre I ran them through winter too so no need for a set of winter tyres.

The one thing I can recommend once you've had it a while & that's to fit a Quaife diff it makes a really big difference to the drive so if you decide it might be a long term addition then get that done it'll also help on re sale.

The other mod is purely cosmetic & that's to fit an X-Pipe it's an inexpensive mod but it gives the standard exhaust system a deeper note when pressing on but remains understated when not.

i wonder how they compare to the C63, i'll read some reviews but might be a better option than the A45.
