Because I've been making it up as I go along and due to the constraints of a SIP's frame I've ended up that my Garage slab will be 50mm lower than I want the finished floor level to be. Basically the thickness of the SIP's Sole Plate which ties one side of the main roller shutter opening to the other. I'm going to enclose the pressure treated timber sole plate with a layer of DPC underside and then a ST/ST capping over the other three sides but this will leave a 50mm ledge. Outside is no problem as I'll just raise the driver when the block work is done so it's all flush and level, but internally I'm thinking of taking the opportunity to add in some floor insulation. The slab already has a DPM in place between the concrete and sand/type 1 substrate, so I'm thinking of 25mm Polystyrene sheets, 25mm of screed on top, then a 2 pack epoxy resin finished floor. I'm nervous about the strength of the polystyrene though will it start to collapse where vehicles are parked and will I see sinking or is the load spread enough so that the screed on top of polystyrene is perfectly acceptable? The other option is to add in some 25mm RHS steel box sections almost like joists between the polystyrene sheets at say every 300mm?

And there was me thinking that 50mm was thin. Don't the UFH guys have some very thin insulation that they use?

it will defiantly crack, 25mm is not thick enough for vehicles, you would be best just pouring the full 50mm in a screed, does the slab not have insulation underneath it?

Why bother insulating the floor of a garage ?

Whilst I'm sure there are products that say they will cope - I'd just use solid screed.
