Has anyone bought a big umbrella for their garden and been delighted with it ?

I quite fancy a cantilever job, this sort of thing...

Some have LEDs built into the stretchers which sounds like a good idea, most look like they need a whopping big weight to hold them down, which is extra.

All recommendations gladly accepted, I know it's only April and to be fair we had a hail storm here yesterday but I'm thinking it's good to be ahead of the game.

I have one like that in the shed, it was quite good even kept you dry in the rain. I cable tied it down to the decking.

Its in the shed, you can have it if you are anywhere near Welwyn. I got a upvc veranda which is fab.

Mine has a square base which contains two large, STRONG bags that you fill with sand; 100kg means it's going nowhere.

OP, we have one of these cantilever style canopies in our garden. It is the most irritating thing i've ever sat under.

The minute you get more than a slight breeze, it swings about violently, squeaks etc We tethered ours down with tie ropes until the thing became so irritating - it went in the bin

We don't have a cantilever one, however about this time last year we bought this one from IKEA - http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/products/parasols-gazebo...

I didn't have high expectations but I must say it's been great! It's lived outside permanently, with a cover over the fabric, and we opened it up for the first time in months a couple of weekends ago. It's still like brand new. Very solid with the concrete base, and the fabric cover seems to be very nice quality, very happy with it for the cash...

I bought a reasonably expensive cantilever one from Next last year. It took about two months for it to pull itself to pieces. The shade was acting as a big sail and any sort of crosswind caused strain on the cantilever mechanism. Eventually it gave up and was just spinning around crashing into walls and passersby.

I'm going to need a new one for when the better weather finally arrives this year. I noticed Next stopped selling the model I bought, presumably after loads of complaints, so I'll try and find a sturdier one.
