We've recently completed on a house, the previous occupier was 90 and ran the house on propane bottles. [Mains gas is FAR too dangerous!]
It was on a 2 on 2 off system, so 4x47kg bottles. I've ripped everything out ready for mains gas to be connected at the end of the month. 2 of the bottles are half full, 2 are completely full.

I've rang around and found the supplier, who said they were on a 'no deposit' system. They'd come and collect, but wouldn't give any sort of rebate. Looking at online prices, there's probably £150 of gas there. Seems crazy to let them come and pick it up.. So what else can I use it for? BBQ? Patio heater? With the size of them I'm left stuck for ideas!

Stick them on gumtree. Mobile home owners would take them off your hands I'm sure at £60-70 for a full cylinder.

Any static or park home sites near you?

Might be worth a discrete ad on the notice board to get rid without attracting the attention of said caravan dwellers who you really don't need any attention whatsoever from.

Might be worth keeping one for emergencies and depending if you're into fixing stuff perhaps one empty to use for air tools?

My "professional" gas BBQ originally came with an orange canister regulator, which I think ran hotter than the green cylinder I now use.

That amount of gas would last years if fuelling a BBQ only though.

FloGas, via Woldlink will deliver a full cylinder (no deposit) for £54.95 http://www.woldlink.co.uk/47kg-propane-gas/ As you can't tell without weighing them as to how full they are, any prospective buyer would want a much lower price, say £30-40 at a guess.

Just an idea, but if you can store them discretely and buy a long hose + regulator, and then whenever the BBQ or patio heater comes out, just unreel the hose & connect it up on the patio?

I have a 15kg tank for the BBQ & I am sorely tempted to do something like that as the damn thing is pretty heavy to lug in & out the shed whenever we want to use the BBQ.

I'd definitely go BBQ/Patio heater if you have that much gas! You'd run them for 2 or 3 summers FOC!

Being a user of such cylinders - would you mind letting me (or indeed the rest of us) know who that is please?

Gibbs Fuels

I recall being charged much more hence your suggestion seemed cheap but I called them to check - about an hour away from you though so not much use.
