Think about it Daimler....really think about it...it's very clever....you see Diane Abbott is black too so mybrainhurts has, very cleverly, made a joke about her and managed to reference in her skin colour too. It's really rather clever and something Bernard Manning would heartily approve of, if he wasn't a dead, thick racist.

One of the dogwoods (Siberian/Midwinter Fire) will give you some nice colour in winter. It's got a lovely architectural form and should be quite effective against the black.

Alternatively , Japanese maple, winter jasmine or bamboo.

Thanks for all the replies, lots to think about.
By the way, the shed is performed concrete sections, I'm glad it gives the impression of being wooden. Also I only want to move the end of the path so that it goes to the door, rather than straight into the wall.

BOOM...and SuperSanctimoniousMan bursts in from the indignant room.

Took your bloody time.

PS...I made a bit of an asumption here. If you're a woman, I do apologise.

Actually, I lied, I don't give a toss.

Sweet dreams....wavey

"it looks a little severe"

A little?

It looks like a fking bunker! What was wrong with dark brown? Dark brown always looks nice on sheds =)

Only solution - do what everyone does to a mat black shed that they want to make better. Down to Halfords, get a big wing, paint the steelies red, add a fk ton of Camber and fit tyres 2" too small for the rim. At least it'll looks "scene" =)

Alternatively maybe Dhalias. I imagine a full bloom of bright yellow flowers and really dark leaves might look from a distance that the whole shed is blooming.

^^ This - precisely what I was thinking.

Choisya ternata "Sundance". Evergreen, vivid yellow foliage year-round. Easy care. Drought tolerant. Perfect choice, I reckon.

It's quite a large shed so you could probably fit several in.

You may want to be a little bolder with uniform colours though to stand out against the matt black.

The PH Sanctimonious Brigade is always lurking, ready to pounce, but don't let that worry you.

This one completely missed the point that I would rather not see a hypocritical racist woman who speaks against private schools, then sends her son to one, who implies that black mothers are better than white mothers and thinks that Mao Tse Tung, who killed tens of millions of his own people, "on balance, probably did more good than bad".

Painted on the black wall, I would not see her, so job done.

Of course, had I suggested painting an ugly black mole on the wall, Mr Sanctimony wouldn't have batted an eye.

Cornus in red yellow and green. Leafy in summer and vivid stems when the leaves are off.

Trachelospermum. Evergreen, leaves vary from bright green to red and gives off a beautiful scent from the white flowers in summer. Don't get the yellow variety it's too tender.

I was unaware that Diane Abbott had said those things, but I can well believe it. She is a twenty-four carrot idiot.

And yes, I do mean carrot. I wouldn't credit her as being 24 karat.

I have painted our shed matt black. There is room for a small boarder in front of it. In fact it needs something as it looks a little severe. Wall is NE facing so gets sun from dawn to midday. Shed is 9 meters long with door at each end of 7m to play with. Rest of garden a work in progress but if it has a style it is "prairie" with grases and perennials and a few shrubs. Boarder opposite shown for reference. Seems like a opportunity to have some dramatic colour.
Thanks!
