Any legal recourse or just inconsiderate?

perhaps we've got it all wrong and the pergola is the OPs and the neighbours have put up that grey crap fence with concrete pillars!
Well, from the photos it does look as though the "good" side of the fence is facing the camera, which would suggest the fence is the neighbours' responsibility.BigJonMcQuimm said:
Our wonderful neighbours have put up a new fence.
Is there anything we can do about this?
Many thanks for any advice.
OP. I can understand you not responding back, but the picture is not clear and so you can't blame people for jumping to conclusions. Is there anything we can do about this?

It does indeed look like a pergola rather than a fence. Do you have any photo's that show otherwise.
Is it more than six foot high (for a fence) or 2 metres high (for a pergola)? If so you can indeed take legal action.
What exactly are you wanting to do about this. From your first post this is not clear. I can not see the issue so it is not a surprise that others have the same position.
I am genuinely trying to be helpful.

No one finds it weird that they've built a second fence alongside the existing one? I've never seen this before.
Weird, perhaps, but then, presumably, the neighbours are human. There are apparently no limits to human weirdness"Any legal recourse or just inconsiderate?" erm, neither.

Whilst it's been amusing to read some of the responses on here (and that does look more pergola than fence) be interesting to know some context.
The OP's fence isn't 'that' bad and I'd be pretty pissed off if neighbours decided to build a second fence parallel to it. Would have been considerate of them to mention it first, no?
Maybe even offer to go halves and build it on the original border if they found the original fence such an eyesore? But the Op's lack of explanation has been unhelpful, maybe he'll come back and provide more detail.
Normally it's the other way round but without thread these pics are worthless!
I still don't get it. I'm not trying to be difficult, but why would you be oissed off at your neighbours putting a fence up behind yours. The OP's fence isn't 'that' bad and I'd be pretty pissed off if neighbours decided to build a second fence parallel to it. I genuinely don't understand what's supposed to be annoying or inconsiderate about it.
To me this is like complaining that they bought a patio table, or installed some raised planters.
Pistonheads is a hard place to post sometimes, the numbers of long posts I haven't posted is considerable, as I always think I'll be thrown to the lions, just like you have been.
I'd say there is not really any chance this could be seen as an inconsiderate installation of your neighbours fence, I'd just get a bit of trellis and train a plant to hide it.
As for your fence, its fine, bit faded perhaps, but perfectly serviceable and not to my mind worth slagging you off about it.

OP does seem to need to have a word with himself.OP, I'll make a serious suggestion: spray the fence with mould and mildew remover, then pressure wash it, then give it a coat of yacht varnish. It'll look a lot better and closer in colour to the neighbour's structure that you seem to find so offensive, so hopefully the neighbour's stuff won't seem as obvious.
