House hunting and have found a pretty much immaculate house. However, they have cracked the bathroom sink (it's got a 50p size chip). We, of course, want to use it as part of our price negotiations.

Has anyone used the re-enamel putty, and if so how good/long-lasting is the result?

Alternatively, looks like there are plenty of services out there for fixing and full enamelling. Again, anyone got any comments on potential price/results for these?

(Assume either will be cheaper than matching and fitting a sink.)

whatever you choose, remember when someone says re enamel then it only means painting, a sink is glazed, that won't be happening again.

yes -used a kit I bought on Fleabay. Pretty simple to use -a bit like car filler. Comes with a small spray can of white enamel paint which made a perfect and undetectable repair initially but the paint soon wears off and leaves the slightly off-white filler visible but easy enough to repaint every couple of months. Kit cost me about a tenner if I recall -a lot cheaper than a new enamel sink!

Replace the sink, it's the only way. Filling and painting is just a temporary cover up which will bug you until the end of time.

I’ve used a kit from amazon and initially it is very good but wears off within a few months. As above it’s a filler, some gentle sand paper and then an enamel spray.

In the end I just bought a new sink and I couldn’t be bothered redoing it all the time.

Thanks for input folks, in the short term we'll use some putty but will budget/negotiate around intention to replace.

Cool. I'm sure that £75 for a sink + fitting will make all the difference on your house purchase smile

Pedantic maybe, but bathrooms have basins. Kitchens have sinks.

And if you think a few quid on a basin is worth worrying about i pity you finding real problems. The buyer will laugh at you if you try and knock the asking price down over that.

Yep, definitely pedantic. wink

But genuinely thanks for input, the sink/basin in question is quite large and unusual so it was more to include it as part of the general haggling process. Didn't mean it come across as I want £1000s off the house price just for a replacement.
