If you could live anywhere in the UK...
Discussion
I am often surprised by the belief by some that "the north" is somehow different and that living in London is so different/more "vibrant????"/better than everywhere else.
Whilst some people do live in the Barbican and some will go to the National Theatre and new gallery exhibitions every week, most people live in the suburbs and the people I know(especially with children) don't really head into London that often when not working.
The traffic is something else too.
The inner suburbs and outer suburbs look identical to those of provincial cities, just on a different, vast scale.

you need to own a horse and a shotgun to engage in conversation with the tweed and cords types.
The main reason I moved from the Cotswolds. The local landlord didn't give me the time of day until I turned up in a 911, suddenly he was all smiles - that attitude I hated, and how busy the roads got - not just the cars - below, the road I lived in! Mind you, I've just swapped the breed of traffic!

Roads aren’t busy where we are. Lots of quiet great roads. It’s why the Evora is my daily driver. Mind you, I've just swapped the breed of traffic!

I live in the SE Canterbury area.
I could not imagine a better place to live, the only problem can be the other people.
I have sea side towns on my doorstep (grew up in one), the Kent downs is a 10 minute drive to great walking routes and quiet woodlands.
The fast train will get you to London in 45 minutes now, 20 minutes drive to the Euro tunnel.
Canterbury itself is a decent city with plenty of history, shops and places to eat.
Basically if you want to live in the country, by the sea, in a small market town or in a city you can all within a 10 mile radius.

Too much in one 'corner' for my liking. Ideal for France/Europe, or London/South Coast but a pain to get to the Lake District, Scotland, Devon, Wales etc. I could not imagine a better place to live, the only problem can be the other people.

Yes, but you'd have to drive 150 miles to the local Chinese chippy.I have to say that the place I'd like to live (more then mine) is here (pic below). I tried really hard over several years to buy this plot (about 30 acres), when it was derelict - but the owners didn't want to sell. Of course I would have knocked the old ruin down and built something else, but when finally sold, the new owners just re-furbed the crofters cottage. Shame for me, but fab for them. What a spot.
You can see the view they have ... and their own beach at low tide.

Went to Devon last year no problems, took 5hrs to get to Padstow.I drove to Lincoln twice (3 hrs) and Doncaster (4hrs max) both fine again. My in-laws drove to Scotland in one hit.
The train is actually quicker for getting up north I can get from my house to Edinburgh in just under 6hrs with one change!

Oh, yes, well aware that it's quite possible. Just not my cup of tea as I like to do a lot of travelling, so would rather be more central. I drove to Lincoln twice (3 hrs) and Doncaster (4hrs max) both fine again. My in-laws drove to Scotland in one hit.
