good stuff.

i literally ran out of things to use (agile) electricity on over the weekend. car full, everything we could think of washed and dried. only positive about the continued crappy weather.
laugh I was almost at the point of going for a drive for the hell of it and sticking the oven on with the windows open! 29kWh on Saturday for -£1.29 biggrin
You'd be doing us a favour, because if they have to shut down a power station, the cost per kWh would probably go up.

Trying to get smart meters installed at the house we’ve moved to but 4 weeks in, they’re still not able to get me an appointment.

Frustrating as I want to get off the flexible tariff.

I received an Octopus Mini in the post the other day. I have plugged it in, connected it to the app on my phone.

It now sits there blinking blue at me.

Now what?

What's it for?

Go into the Octopus app, then Usage and click Live - it will show you real time consumption figures

A bit like the old screen based home displays.

If it is flashing blue it isn’t connected to your WiFi.

You can see live usage of electricity, not gas, on your phone instead of looking at the in-home display.

You can see the last days worth of electricity and gas consumption before it updates from the DCC.

But more usefully you can integrate it into Home Assistant - www.home-assistant.io/

The little light on the mini should be steady white if it’s fully configured and connected.

Green means it’s trying to connect to your meter - it generally goes through this stage during boot-up.

Flashing blue means it is waiting for you to go through the setup process. The link contains instructions on what needs doing: https://octopus.energy/octopus-home-mini-faq/

Thank You. It seems I hadn't finished the setup procedure.

The little light is now a steady white.

It might still be a few hours before it’s fully operational, but once everything has shaken down you should then find that the “My Energy” section of the Octopus app will have a “Live” tab that shows your current electric usage over the last 5 minutes (updating every 10 seconds) or 30 minutes (updating every minute).

I have 4 icons at the bottom of the screen - Home - Usage - Bills - Octoplus.

Where do I find live tab?

I don't have it. Do you only get it if you have the Octopus mini?

I cant remember, pretty sure the usage tab should always be there as you can check previous days statistics, the Mini just adds current day and live use.

For me on iPad, the Octopus app has “Home”, “My Energy”, “Bills & Payments”, “Octoplus” and “Account & Settings”.

But I note that on the iPhone there are only four screens, “Home”, “Usage”, “Bills” and “Octoplus”. The abbreviated labels are presumably just to save space on the smaller screen.

The “Live” tab appears on the “My Energy” or “Usage” screen depending on which device you’re on. But you only have “Live” if you have a fully configured Mini. I confess I can’t remember whether “Day” was there before I had the Mini.

I have the usage tab and day, week, month, just not live. I do have a mini that I have not setup yet, will have a go later.

Not on Octopus but looking to move to them in a couple of months. We're doing some work to the house which will include a fairly large solar and battery system.

Intention is in the summer the solar should give us all the electricity we need and would look to export what we don't use. In the middle of winter we'd be importing electricity. I would like to use the battery to charge it overnight and use that electricity during the day.

We will also get an EV so would be looking to charge that overnight in winter.

Which Octopus tariff/rates should I look at and do they have any issues with charging a home battery on the EV tariff's which look to have the cheapest overnight rates ?

Thanks !

We have exactly that and use Intelligent Octopus. Currently 7.5p pkwh. Charge the battery at night and export as much as I can at 15p pkwh on outgoing Octopus. I do this all year round. We have 9.5kwh battery and rarely use anything from the grid, even in the winter.

The “Live” tab will only appear after you’ve finished setting up the Mini, and given it a couple of hours for their back-end system to notice.
