I ordered last week, because I was getting low, 38ppl. Today 34ppl - bugger!
Similar to me and I also ordered last week at 42ppl and I've just checked and it has gone down to 39ppl. I normally go for either a 3 or 5 day delivery but I could only get a 14 day delivery this time. Roughly 30p here in Perthshire.
I am new to the heating oil game , it fairly fluctuates in price?
First order on moving in in January was 500 litres at approximately £250 for 7 day delivery (came sooner!) latest one 1000 litres for approximately £340. Took longest delivery option which was by the 13th April , this was placed on the 31st March and then said would be due by the 9th and actually came the 2nd ! You would be kicking yourself to have paid more for quick delivery?
This is Johnston oils. Very impressed with speed and price.

Hearing an oil tanker delivering to a neighbour, then reading this thread, prompted me to check the price with my usual supplier - 39p. Same price with another local company, both for 14 day delivery.
I've looked at Boiler Juice when ordering before, and they have only quoted prices less than 1p a litre lower than my usual supplier, so I haven't bothered. Yesterday their price was 29p in my area, so I ordered 700 litres.
This morning I got the confirmation email, saying that my order will be processed on Monday, when the "group buying weekend" is over, and that I will hopefully benefit from the discount. I'm a bit confused by this.
Does it mean that my order may not be fulfilled at the price I paid?

Correct, it could be a bit cheaper if they have enough people in the same area for delivery so they can apply a group discount,or if the price dropped on the day you ordered after your order.I've looked at Boiler Juice when ordering before, and they have only quoted prices less than 1p a litre lower than my usual supplier, so I haven't bothered. Any further discount they hold in a "kitty" for you and take it off your next delivery.
Thy will not put the price up though on your quoted price so you can rest easy

It really lends itself to spamming the local FB page when you do an order (other social mechanisms are available). I did the same this week and it knocked 7p/l off of my order. Great system imo.
Excellent idea! I posted a link to BoilerJuice on a local FB selling group last night. So far 23 people have commented that they have placed an order, or shared it to their friends. Be interesting to see if the price drops.Oil Club offered 32.5 plus VT on Friday (west Wales). BUT....they are quoting anything up to 6 weeks delivery.
All in all I'm glad I paid 42p incl VAT a couple of weeks ago and had it delivered before the crisis hit big time. Should last until winter now that we are coming into milder weather.

Yes I was watching and waiting when I started this thread and was concerned when the price jumped - presumably panic buying. All in all I'm glad I paid 42p incl VAT a couple of weeks ago and had it delivered before the crisis hit big time. I was intending to wait longer but when the price was low and delivery dates started extending I bought some to be safe - I was quoted 3 weeks - it came the next day !
Friend at the end of my road just messaged me - she’s just ordered some at 21ppl!
I paid 40p just 3 weeks ago and thought I did ok..
I’ve used the same supplier for 16 years and no matter what, they deliver to me within two days of ordering.
My friend on the other hand has run out several times and been left waiting as they always play one supplier off with another.

The power really is with those that plan ahead. If you give yourself a month or so you can really save a lot of money either through an "automated" syndicate like boiler juice or through specific arrangements in your street/village.I paid 40p just 3 weeks ago and thought I did ok..

I can't imagine ever needing heating oil within two days unless it leaked/got stolen. My warning light on the Watchman starts going a good two months before my tank empties, even at winter!

I’ve never got that close to running out, and I always tell my supplier that anytime in the next two weeks will be fine for a delivery, but they always turn up in the next few days.I can't imagine ever needing heating oil within two days unless it leaked/got stolen. I remember some 10 years or so ago when we had a very harsh winter - minus 13c at times, and those in my village who weren’t ‘loyal’ customers to any of the oil companies were struggling to get oil within 4 or 5 weeks and were also paying a massive hike in prices.
We were getting through oil at an alarming rate and needed topping up as and when - I didn’t pay anymore than usual and it was delivered with no problems - not so for many of my neighbours.
My last fill was possibly a few weeks premature- my Watchman said I had about 300 litres left, but this was the start of C19 hitting us and everyone being at home.
I decided to have a top up and it was actually 1000 litres that went in (1300 tank). At the time, the oil companies were having supply issues so I just bit the bullet and went for it.
Nothing to do with poor planning!
I look at Boiler Juice and it doesn’t seem any better than my usual supplier.
They are quoting 35p for delivery from 15th April.
I’m happy spending another 7p knowing I’ll get oil when I want it.

Me neither hence I'm happy shopping around as I don't need preferential customer status.I’m happy spending another 7p knowing I’ll get oil when I want it.
If it was 7p I'd agree with you but in your case it's around £70, in mine it's around £140, I have better things to do with the money.

Shopping around makes almost no difference to the price in my area - I always look, then realise I really don’t mind paying a few pence more sometimes, but get it when I want it anyway. If it was 7p I'd agree with you but in your case it's around £70, in mine it's around £140, I have better things to do with the money.
So I’ve spent around £70 too much.
Once in 16 years is no hardship... places like Boiler Juice have at times been more expensive than my usual supplier, so swings and roundabouts.
I normally plan it better than I did this last time I agree, but I won’t lose sleep over £70!
Besides, we’re saving £350 / 400pm at the moment by not using the cars....
