Our local public convenience was sold and converted into a little coffee bar, but with no toilets.
It's very common. Ours has just been converted into a 'microbar'.

It seems a very backward step selling up all these public toilets - is it just cash strapped councils not wanting to pay to maintain them, preferring to make some quick cash by selling them? rolleyes Seem to be forgetting what the purpose of a council is - to provide local services!

I think you're right, but they've been starved of funding by Central government for years. It's short sighted, but if they can't afford to run them...

It makes no sense to me that a supposedly wealthy country cannot manage and fund basic services that were once taken for granted. I guess that's a topic for another thread!

Local to me, there was a tiny public convenience converted years ago to a barber shop owned supposedly at the time by someone called Al. The sign over the door to this day reads 'You're in Al's Barber Shop'.

I was surprised this one wasn't demolished. When open as a toilet it was filthy and smelly and entering it was at your own risk!

It looks like converted doctors ' surgery circa 1970. Lovely blurb about only an hour by car from the seafront at Brighton. Virtually beachfront property!

£3.5m for that? wow, what the hell has happened.

I assume that must be close to the going rate for the area but still, why would anyone in their right mind spend that sort of money on what looks like an ex council semi detached house?
That’s London for you, I know that many like living there but I still can’t get my head around it, remember when an old friend of mine moved down there, he spoke about how much his salary had increased working there but was living in a tiny basement flat that he paid over £500k for and didn’t have a car as the cost to buy a parking space and insure a car was crazy. He’s since decided to move back north, took a bit of a pay cut but now lives in a lovely house, drives a 991 911 and has more disposable income.

Doctors surgery is immediately what I thought. That weird UPVC entrance way. Mental.

Funny thing is, despite it being an odd thing to mention anyway, they actually overcooked the Brighton thing. It’s usually about 40-45 mins tops laugh
