Recommend me a washing machine...
Discussion
So hard to know isn't it, because equally if it goes wrong support is good, and few people who just fit and forget actually go back and review stuff.
The washing machines are fairly new, and their freezer venture folded fairly quickly it seems, but company has been going since the 60-70s making dehumidifiers which are well respected as quality items. I don't know if the warranty is tied to the washing machine arm of the company existing, or would continue to hold water if that folded.
Who knows, I don't even currently need a new washing machine. But if the grumbly bearing in my 15yo Zanussi brings it down I would be very tempted to give it a punt.
It feels like their doing the right thing rather than following the fashions, and it is a simpler thing to get right than said.

After some poor experiences with mid-range kitchen appliances, I've come round to the belief that basic is best. No touchscreens, wifis, nothing which is additional to the purpose of the machine itself. Manual dials for controls as far as possible.
I bought a built-in SHARP washing machine this year, it does the job with minimal fuss, and it was £250 I think. It's very very quiet too, so running overnight on cheap leccy is fine. Has as many programmes and configurations as I'd ever need, so it's pretty decent value I think. I'd recommend it anyway.
Other than the washing machine, I had an oven with a touchscreen display, a Candy. I had a couple of sudden power cuts because of some problems with cables in our street, and this fried some part of the ECU or whatever, the oven went into a DEMO mode and couldn't be persuaded out of it - even the manufacturer helpline couldn't get me sorted. So the oven (which was only about 2/3 years old) went in the bin and I replaced it with a bog standard Belling one with manual rotary controls only and no sodding touch screen. Much, much happier with that.

Has anyone got an Ebac?
"The only washing machine Made in Britain, complete with an industry leading 7 year parts and labour warranty. Ebac washing machines promise total care and protection for the best wash possible."
Appears to have good features list and promising reviews but I've not seen or heard about them in the real world much.
I've got one and have had it in regular use for 4 years - an ECare+ 7kg from the look of it. Never gone wrong and cleans my clothes, until they're clean, even on a 40min cycle. Not much more to say, but pleased I bought it! "The only washing machine Made in Britain, complete with an industry leading 7 year parts and labour warranty. I did notice the cycle times listed on the website, which appeared refreshingly moderate for a modern machine.
Lots of people also reporting they are very quiet in operation too which is always nice.

It is - I have it in a cupboard in the kitchen and its never obtrusive even at 1,400 rpm.. The functions are simple - I was more interested in that when I bought it rather than wizz bang electronics and impressive digital displays. Only use two functions mind, but it cleans as well as the previous Miele thats circuitry went AWOL; hence the replacement. I notice the Ebac site promotes its machines have an 'intensive' cycle.

Ii also notice they machines have a two-part drum, to allow the main bearing to be changed, other repairs to be carried out.

Our Samsung eco bubble has just ruined the brand new LVT flooring in the utility - turns out it has a small leak which has been coming out the back. I’ve taken it apart but cannot figure out where it’s coming from.
It’s 6 years old so question repairing being economical although it’s in fairly good condition.
We need something quiet because my daughters bedroom is directly above said utility - but given I now have to pay to repair the flooring, don’t want to spend a lot - any recommendations? Feels like it’s one of those things where it’s a bit of a cr@p shoot?

Yes sorry shouldn’t have been so non specific. £400-500 ideally, but if say, auto dosing is well worth it I could be convinced.
Ageeed don’t want to go too cheap - but then again this Samsung I don’t remember being super cheap and it’s just ruined the floor so…
Don’t intend to spend £1000!

I thought Hotpoint/Whirlpool were made in the UK too (just that the factory was not owned by a UK firm)?"The only washing machine Made in Britain, complete with an industry leading 7 year parts and labour warranty. Ebac washing machines promise total care and protection for the best wash possible."

On no account buy a Haier.
Had them on the list - why do you say this? I was concerned as never heard of them. Also any opinions on direct drive?
Our main objective is quietness and the Samsung did seem to thrash about - I guess levelling it is part of this (hard to do in a 1930s house), drive method doesn’t make much difference?

Then after about 8 or 9 months the dryer stopped working (the washer still worked), with a fault code that you could not clear (it meant the heating element had over heated/detected a fault). They came out, cleaned it internally and explained what was happening was that the fluff was getting into the heater element. Matey also explained this was fault on the rev 1 of the model, but rev 2 was supposed to fix the problem (ours as a rev 2).
A few months later, it did it again. They came out and cleaned it again. It broke again within a few days. At this point I asked for a refund as it clearly had a design fault. I must have made 6 calls to them, each time they refused, even saying they could not see the issue, because as it had a 2 year warranty, they would keep coming out and fixing it !
They also claimed it was my fault, because I should have cleaned the drain plug filter thing - which of course it was nothing to do with.
After more calls, they finally agreed a refund, which meant I had a credit back to the supplier (AO.com). I then selected a different brand. AO.com were the complete opposite of Haier - in hindsight I should have gone back to them after the second time it broke.
Have a look on https://uk.trustpilot.com/review/haier-europe.com, and look for fault "Fd".
I know mine was a washer/dryer, but I'd never buy one again.
