After years of Bosch/Siemens washers & dryers, now have Samsung washer & Haier heat pump dryer.

Won’t go back these recent products are far better & so far no engineer visits required. If the washer needs a repair will probably get a newer larger capacity one. Samsung & Haier 5 years parts & labour warranties.

Popped to a large Curry's to have a look today.

There is something very soul-destroying about looking at washing machines as they're all there on display but what the hell are you supposed to actually do with a washing machine that is in front of you not connected to anything laugh

To be fair things I did notice by looking were the "cheap" model indeed does have a plastic outer tub and the more expensive models appear to have "Made in Germany" on the sticker/plate on the inside of the door whilst the cheaper ones don't.

Impossible to tell much else from seeing them if I'm honest.

Literally just white goods.

From looking at the range I think it's starting to make sense now.

I think from what I can work out from what's "nice to have" and what's actually useful Powerwash and TwinDos are two main things.

Machines with both seem super pricey so if I had to prioritise I think Powerwash looks the more useful.

I'm not a million miles from Abingdon at the weekend so I may pop in and see what the score is with the outlet.

Drum size is priority to us - it has to be large enough to take a Kingsize quilt - likewise the tumble drier to ensure you don’t have to split a full wash into two dries.

Next question biggrin

Is there a lower limit on loads?

As much as it's easy to look at 8kg or 9kg it's also useful to know you can chuck in 1-2kg.

Leaning towards Powerwash over Twindos.

Some machines can “ work out “ they need less water for a smaller load and obviously less detergent needed but obviously not particularly economical to do.
Apparently our Miele can do this but the Neff can’t !

Yeah I'm looking at the WEG365 which has a "single item" setting.

Don't get me wrong I don't tend to wash single items but that suggests it can deal with smaller loads.

Never thought buying a washing machine would end up so far down the rabbit hole biggrin

Surely within reason any washing machine will do an ok job a tumbling a part/small load around for an hour or two, and if its reasonably infrequent it doesn't matter too much if it uses an less optimised amount of water/heating? Obviously if you do a lot of part loads that might be different, but I would usually (almost always) fill or nearly fill a machine.

For a single item, surely its as quick just to wash it by hand!

Honestly I'm just a bit of a weirdo and I always fancied a Miele providing the mid-range ones are actually decent biggrin

I cant fault that, its a nice brand who have made some very nice kit.

The MIL has one of their 'honeycomb' washers which is maybe 10yo ad going well after a lot of dog bed washing.
We have 25+ yo dishwasher which came with the house, quicker and quieter than anything else I have ever used.

That said, now that I know about them, I do fancy and Ebac myself.

I didn't realise they were still going but 20% off a 10KG plus 7 year warranty is attractive!

Also they do dual fill too when everything else seems to have gone cold only over the years.

Cheapo Indesit. Cost £230 from John Lewis and still going 10 years later.

Washed clothes faultlessly in audition to muddy doormats, gardening gear, trainers, pet beds...

This is true. But my drier doesn't match anyway, or get any meaningful use.

I had Samsung washing machines for years and thought they were quite good. Now I have a Haier and its way better.
