Ordering coal online
Discussion
I have recently moved in to a new place and it’s got an open fire that we are using every night so we are using a fair bit of coal, well smokeless ovals.
Our local coal merchant is charging £14/20kg bag of ovals so it works out at £700/ton.
This place https://clickcoal.com/products/smokeless-ovois is at £10/bag so £500/ton and this is delivered.
Has anyone used them or can recommend somewhere online that they have used?

I used these people and they were fine:

I think I got a 10% discount for agreeing to a monthly delivery, but there was no minimum term. I had three deliveries, all from the same local (ish) firm with the price coming in at around £14 for a 25kg bag.

Odd! I was just looking around yesterday for some more smokeless fuel!
Housefuel do some good deals
I've used this and it's pretty good
https://www.housefuel.co.uk/clearance-line-25kg
£495 a ton
I've gone for a half pallet of this as I didn't want a full pallet this time:
https://www.homefire.co.uk/solid-fuel-clearance-li...
Not tried it before so don't know what it'll be like
Annoyingly it seems Northern Ireland it's way cheaper, but finding someone to deliver to UK is tricky.
There is this place but I've not tried them at £500 a ton

You might want to consider getting a smaller amount of a new product, before ordering a pallet full. There are lots of different ovoids on the market, so make sure you're happy with whatever before 'brand' before that big purchase.
I use something called 'Excel' as it easy to light and doesn't produce that much ash. I pay about £12 for a 20kg bag

+1 I did the same when I first had a house with a fire. I went to my local merchants, bought a bag of each. I definitely wouldn't buy based on the cheapest and there's quite a difference between the 6/7 I tried and I also preferred Excel and its all I'll buy now even if it's not the cheapest.I use something called 'Excel' as it easy to light and doesn't produce that much ash. Having tried about 6 different smokeless options since the downfall of house coal I can highly recommend Oxbow Red. High heat output, long lasting and low ash. We collect from our local coal merchant @ £12.45 for 20kg. 10 bags at a time.
We did look at ordering a pallet of 40 bags, but it worked out more.

Just an update on this, the coal is brilliant, little ash and lots of heat. I’m going to be ordered a fair bit more when I get my coal store rebuilt just in case it runs out or the prices goes up loads.
Do you get interesting flames like a house coal? Which I think is a key part of an open fire for enjoyment. Or is it mainly flameless?dhutch said:

You don’t get the flames like you used to get in proper house coal but you still get a very satisfying glow. Plus it doesn’t spit everywhere like house coal used to do. Gtom said:

That website also has premium Colombian coal available that looks like the real macoy, coal wiseOur local coal merchant is charging £14/20kg bag of ovals so it works out at £700/ton.

Tempted as not keen on the briquettes which is all you seem to get now
I have seen a few places still selling Columbian doubles but the last few times my dad bought some it wasn’t very good at all. It didn’t give out much heat, spat a lot and made a lot of ash.
Plus I intend on taking the open fire out and fitting a multi fuel stove so house coal would be no good for that.
