Slightly off topic but this thread reminds me of my ex over the road neighbour. He noticed some disused land in the town centre and set it up as a car park. He had no idea who owned the land, he just got a ticket book and charged people to park.

Got to admire his cheek.

Good luck op & please keep us updated.
I heard a similar apocryphal story - chap did similar and then one day just disappeared, presumably to retire off 30+ years of untaxed cash earnings! laugh

No ideas for a name

Many thanks!

Edited to add...

It brings up multiple properties (including mine), but that's to be expected when it's parking spaces and garages. At least its only going to cost me about 4 downloads to find the owner. The damp is making the garage unusable at the moment.

What interesting is the 2 spaces next to mine used to be garages, which have collapsed over time. The map actually reflects that by not showing them as garages. In another block it has "ruins" next to two gaps in a block. I suspect they are garages that have partially collapsed.

It's quite odd that in an otherwise nice area the garage blocks for these houses are in such a state of decay. Even if you don't use your garage why let it become a ruin. It has some value and could be sold if you didn't want it.

Are these ex-council or similar houses?
Quite common for garages in blocks to be rented out separately from the houses, then some 'right to buy' people managed to add a garage to their deal, others did not.
Also a few property co's specialise in lock-up garages, there are blocks of garages in some cities which have been bought and sold over the years.
I think some are pretty old, maybe pre-war?
Old enough not to be properly registered and popular with people who don't do unnecessary paperwork.

Around here, the various arms of the council seem to disclaim owning some bits of land like grass verges.

The other thing is, where chunks of a plot are sold off but don't join up, the bits in between can remain with the original owner, sometimes as 'ransom strips' to influence future development, or profit from it or prevent it.
Sometimes it's just sloppy conveyancing.
