Any pics or map links to provide context?

Why does he need to speak to the chap, who could himself be misinformed?

Land Registry will detail who owns it and the information will be valid in a court of law if required (if ordered in the correct format wink ), unlike 'he said, she said' chats with randoms.

So are you going to stop moaning now and ask the gentleman if it’s his land?

As already mentioned, Land Registry map search will give you the actual registered landowner.

Not always. At our last house we (and two neighbours) accessed our garage via an unadopted road. Every time one of the houses was sold there'd be the same rigmarole of trying to find out who actually owned the road, as the local council, county council, Highways & everyone else who was asked denied owning it. There was nothing on LR either, so the eventual result was an insurance indemnity as part of the house sale.

Ultimately, I suppose, the Crown owns anything that isn't registered anywhere else.

Are you maybe driving over ‘landscaping’ or a footpath and that’s his objection?

Or maybe the parking spot used to be landscaping and he still sees it as that rather than waste ground.

Call me selfish, but I don’t really care who owns it.. if the owner comes to me and says to stop parking then I’ll listen. I’m not going out of my way to find who the owner is for the occasional time I park there when it’s busy if the real owner doesn’t actually care for this unkept bit of land
What's you're address please, so I can park on your property. Thanks

As I said above, I own a parking space in an area that hardly anyone uses. I couldn't give a crap if anyone parks there. On the odd occasion I need to use it I just park somewhere else. They aren’t marked as parking bays, and there are no signs so I can't really get to upset when others park there.

I'd be more annoyed if some curtain twitcher was trying to police it!

Not your parking space though, is it? You seem to have a bit of an attitude over this. Your lucky you've had a polite request, some people arent so nice.

But you just said it's not a parking space.

Bit like if somewhere isn't a bowling alley you probably shouldn't chuck bowling balls around.

Indeed - one of my cars is parked in a spot that is not a "parking space".. Been using it for 10 years so far. You don't HAVE to park your car in a designated/marked parking space. You just have to park it somewhere legal and not inconveniencing anyone significantly.

OP, have you used the Land Registry map search to look up if it's registered yet? If it is, £3 and you'll have your answer.
